Race Pace!

3 teams, 4 drivers within 0.03s/lap: remarkable convergence in performance under stable rules!

NOR was flying on fresher tyres!

RUS's pace in the last 10 laps was impressive, as his last pit was on lap 12.

VER could not aim to the FL point on new Softs due to the VSC.

McLaren nullified its 1.74s/lap race pace gap in one year, gaining more than anyone! 📈

Solid improvement by Haas, Williams, and Mercedes. 👌

RedBull lost all its 2023 advantage (0.54s/lap vs Ferrari). 📉

The field got much closer: 4 teams within 0.22s/lap! (1.02s/lap last year).

In Baku:

🔴Ferrari's DRS improved dramatically (+20km/h in '24 vs +13km/h in '23).
🔵RedBull's was the strongest, stronger even than last year's.
🟠McLaren's top speed when the DRS was active was the lowest.
⚫️Mercedes ran a less loaded wing➡️Fastest without DRS and matched for fastest with.

(Data from quali; DRS=OFF data from the main straight, immediately before the drivers activated DRS.)

Singapore GP Preview 👀

- 2 chicanes were removed last year, making the 3rd sector quicker.
- A FOURTH DRS zone is being added this year.

4 DRS zones + very loaded wings ➡️ DRS effectiveness crucial for qualifying performance. 💡

Traction and braking are critical; cornering not as much.

Due to their recent performance and the track characteristics, I expect McLaren and Ferrari to fight for the win.

REAR WINGS - Singapore GP

The track has gotten much quicker compared to ‘22 (two chicanes less, a fourth DRS zone added), yet teams are still using maximum-load wings.

The additional DRS-zone helps with that in quali, yet those in free air in the race will effectively have a ‘parachute’ behind the cockpit. 🪂

FP2 DATA HIGHLIGHTS 👀

1) BEST SECTORS:
Ferrari and McL left little to competitors: P1-P4 in S1; +0.18s vs next quickest (RUS) in S2 and +0.26s (vs PER) in S3.
PER was 3rd quickest in S3, VER 2nd slowest.

2) GRIP:
Ferrari was unmatched in the last, fast left-hander (~5g lateral acceleration).
McL and Racing Bulls had superior braking, however.

3) MINISECTORS:
Ferrari and McL seem to have similar characteristics and traded blows in S1 and S3.
TSU was quickest in several of S2's 90-degree corners!

Who's looking favourite for pole, in your opinion? 🤔

SINGAPORE GP - PRACTICE 2 | LONG RUNS:

🥇NOR (Softs)
🥈LEC +0.005s/lap (Mediums)
🥉HAM +0.125s/lap (Mediums)

Only PER tested the Hards: RedBull traditionally runs a more conservative engine mode in the long runs compared to the other teams, and often a heavier fuel load too.

BEST SECTORS

Norris was quickest in both Sectors 1 and 2, Mercedes in Sector 3 (the quickest one): their top speed was the highest (317km/h, +4km/h vs McL), which helped them there.

VER got the front row even though his sector times were unimpressive.

RACE PACE - Singapore GP

🥇🟠NOR
🥈🔵VER +0.41s/lap
🥉🟠PIA +0.68s/lap

A dominant performance by NOR and McL: much quicker than the 2nd quickest car (RedBull in terms of final gap, albeit stuck-in-traffic LEC was arguably at least as quick) and than his teammate (hit by traffic).

Ferrari's disastrous qualifying ruined their weekend by making them unable to express the car’s potential. 💡

Solid pace for ALO/HUL/TSU/COL! 👌

NOR now 52points behind VER (who did good damage-limitation).

Singapore GP - Gap to Race Winner:

Two drivers impressed the most: Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc:

In the first stint (Mediums), NOR increased his advantage on VER from 5s on lap 10 to 25s on lap 28: ~1.1s/lap quicker! 😳

LEC quickest in the last stint (Hards), even more than PIA who was on a 2L-fresher tyre. Leclerc could have gotten P2 had he started in a better spot. 🤕

HUL (321km/h) and HAM (320) reached the highest top speeds in the race📈

VER (309km/h) and TSU (308) were slowest 📉

Not by chance, as the same happened in qualifying (everyone uses DRS, no close tows): Merc and Haas fastest, RedBull and RacingBulls slowest

That’s why Charles Leclerc couldn’t overtake RUS! 💡

McL and RedBull were quickest in the fastest corner (best downforce), and slowest in the straights (most drag).

Fastest corner, time difference and min speed (Quali):
🟠McL Quickest, 215km/h
🔵RB +0.015s, 215
⚫️Merc: 0.023s, 211
🔴Ferrari: +0.033s. 213 (lost to Merc despite higher min. speed)

Top speeds:
⚫️Mercedes 317km/h
🔴Ferrari 316
🟠McL/🔵RB: 313

Ferrari’s numbers would have looked better had they not missed Q3.
