In Indycar, aero setup is even crazier than #F1!🛠

Example: ‘17 HONDA
Top: Low-Drag Spec (speedways)
Bottom: High-Downf. (road courses)

For the latter, rules allow ~100hp more: despite that, the terminal speed gets SEVENTY km/h lower!

Drag doubles: (675/575)(390/320)^3 = 210%!

THE CRAZIEST F1 PHOTO YOU'LL SEE TODAY!🔥

Cornering produces huge🔵Lateral forces (➡️Fy), equal to the🟢Inertial Force (-m*ay)

The resulting lateral load transfer increases the outer tyre🟣Load (⬆️Fz)

The rear left rim pokes out of the tyre, and the front right lifts!🤯

The consequences are clear:

- The huge lateral force on the rear-left wheel shifts the tyre to the right compared to the rim. Static waves appear, too!
- The inertial force makes the chassis roll to the left.
- The unloaded front-right tyre lifts.
- The suspension becomes asymmetric.

There are also other consequences (Camber, Toe variation, ...?) which are clearly visible from the image.

Consider that, as we approach the last year with this ruleset, visual changes will be smaller (as teams by know all have a working concept, and simply refine it).

Even more so for a WCC-winning team, that has a lot to lose and not as much to gain from a total overhaul

Williams aims to cut drag!👀

💡Here is how:

🔴 More streamlined and smaller engine cover (shark fin is larger).
🟡 Front wing: less mid-span load and less cambered scoop.

Also:
🟣 Switched to push-rod rear suspension!
⚪️ Updated floor edge
🟢 Overbite

Will they top the speed traps? 🤔

Remarkably, Mercedes had a pull-rod rear suspension in ‘23 but used a push-rod in ‘24 and will keep it for ‘25.

Williams kept the pull-rod for last year but is finally switching to the one (push-rod) provided by Mercedes.

Haas' new rear wing is unlike anything seen so far: the cut on the endplate is so extreme that it almost traverses the entire wing!

Other changes:
🔵 Cut behind the front wing endplate;
🟡 Underbite ➡️ overbite inlets;
🔴 Seemingly larger undercut.
