Abu Sa’id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

“The people of paradise will be able to see the people in the apartments above them as you see the shining stars on the horizon in the east and the west, because of the differences in their status.

They said: “O Messenger of Allah, is that the status of the prophets which no one else will reach besides them?” He said: “No, by the One in Whose Hand is my soul, they are men who had faith in Allah and believed in the Messengers.”

(Narrated by al-Bukhari, 2082; Muslim, 2831)

The highest of the degrees of Paradise is Al-Firdaws

As It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said:

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “… When you ask of Allah, ask Him for al-Firdaws, for it is in the middle of Paradise and is the highest part of Paradise, and above it is the Throne of the Most Merciful, and from it spring forth the rivers of Paradise.”

(Narrated by al-Bukhari, 2637; Muslim, 2831)

From among the most important lessons in Surah Yusuf عليه السلام is that it took many years before Yusuf عليه السلام was released from the prison he was wrongfully placed. And many more years before he was reunited with his family. Sometimes the trials we face in life don’t disappear over a short period of time. Rather, ease is delayed to increase us in wisdom and patience, in certainty, trust and faith in Allāh ﷻ. How many times throughout life, do we look back and realise that, hadn’t certain events and delays happened, we would not have reached destinations or met individuals that we are thankful today?

Surah Yusuf, V.21:

Allah’s Will always prevails, but most people do not know.

❝ Allah تَعالى said:
(The believers, both men and women, are guardians of one another.)

This is the affair of the believers. They do not abandon their brothers, nor do they forsake them in the time of their distress, nor do they refrain from helping and aiding them. ❞

“and whosoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger, then verily, for him is the fire of Hell, he shall dwell therein forever”

[al-Jinn 72:23]
THE MAN WHO KILLED 99 PEOPLE

It was reported from Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri (may Allah be pleasd with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

“Among the Children of Israel there was a man who killed ninety-nine people. Then he went out and came to a monk and

asked him, ‘Can I repent?’

He said, ‘No,’ so he killed him.

Then he started asking, and a man said to him, ‘Go to such and such a town.’ But death caught up with him,

so he inclined his chest towards (that town, as he was dying).

The angels of mercy and the angels of punishment disputed concerning him. Allah inspired (the good town) to come closer to him,

and (the evil town) to move away from him, then He said, Measure the distance between them. They found that he was closer to (the good town) by a hand-span, so he was forgiven.”

(Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 3283; Muslim, 2766).

🍃🍂 Popular Aḥādīth That Are Not Confirmed 🍂🍃

There is nothing authentic stating that a du’ā’ (supplication) made while it is raining is more likely to be answered by Allāh (ﷻ).

There is a ḥadīth attributed to Sahl ibn Sa’d who narrates that Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) said:

ثِنْتَانِ لَا تُرَدَّانِ - أَوْ قَلَّمَا تُرَدَّانِ - الدُّعَاءُ عِنْدَ النِّدَاءِ، وَعِنْدَ الْبَأْسِ حِينَ يُلْحِمُ بَعْضُهُمْ بَعْضًا

Two [supplications] will not be declined – or little will it be declined – supplication at the time of the call to prayer, and [supplication] at the time of fighting, when some are grappling with others.

And following this ḥadīth, an additional chain is given where Sahl ibn Sa’d is reported to have narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:

وَوَقْتُ الْمَطَرِ (وَتَحْتَ المَطَرِ)

And at the time of rain (and under the rain) [1]

This ḥadīth comes by way of Mūsā ibn Ya’qūb az-Zam’ī, from Abī Ḥāzim (Salamah ibn Dīnār), from Sahl ibn Sa’d, and the first part of the ḥadīth (without the addition of the rain) is ṣaḥīḥ in mawqūf form – meaning from the words of Sahl ibn Sa’d - as Imām Mālik reports this as well from Abī Ḥāzim from Sahl ibn Sa’d. [2] The wording is slightly different, but the meaning is the same.

As for the addition of “And at the time of rain,” then Mūsā ibn Ya’qūb is alone in reporting this, and although Yaḥyā ibn Ma’īn considered him trustworthy, ‘Alī ibn al-Madīnī said, “He is weak in ḥadīth; munkar al-ḥadīth.” Imām Aḥmad said, “I am not pleased with is aḥādīth.” An-Nasā’ī said, “He is not strong.” And ad-Dāraquṭnī said, “He is not to be relied upon.” Mūsā ibn Ya’qūb also takes this addition from Rizq ibn Sa’īd from Abū Ḥāzim, and Rizq ibn Sa’īd is unknown.

As for the ḥadīth attributed to Abū Umāmah who narrates that the Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) said:

The gates of the heavens are open and the supplication is responded to in four places: When the rows meet for the cause of Allāh [meaning in battle], when the rain comes down, when the prayer is established, and when seeing the Ka’bah. [4]

This ḥadīth only comes by way of Ġufayr ibn Ma’dān, from Sulaym ibn ‘Āmir, from Abū Umāmah, and Ġufayr is rejected. He was classed as munkar by Aḥmad, al-Bukhārī, and Abū Zur’ah ar-Rāzī, and weakened by Yaḥyā ibn Ma’īn, Abū Ḥātim ar-Rāzī, Abū Dāwūd, at-Tirmiṫhī, and others. An-Nasā’ī said, “He is not trustworthy, nor should his aḥādīth be written.”

And as for the narration:

اطْلُبُوا إِجَابَةَ الدُّعَاءِ عِنْدَ الْتِقَاءِ الْجُيُوشِ، وَإِقَامَةِ الصَّلَاةِ، وَنُزُولِ الْغَيْثِ

Seek the response to supplication when the armies meet, the prayer is established, and when the rain comes down [3]

This was reported by ash-Shāfi’I in Al-Umm and it is weak as Imām ash-Shāfi’ī does not name the one he heard this from. The narration is also from Makḥūl from the Prophet (ﷺ), and Makḥūl is a Tābi’ī who did not hear from him, so it is mursal as well.

It is confirmed that the Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) would make certain supplications while it is raining, such as what we find in the ḥadīth of ‘Ā’ishah who said:

أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا رَأَى الْمَطَرَ قَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ صَيِّبًا نَافِعًا

When the Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) would see rain, he would say, “O Allāh, let it be a beneficial rain.” [5]

There are many instances where the Prophet (ﷺ) would supplicate when things occurred, but this does not mean the supplications are more likely to be answered during these times when made by others.

And Allāh (ﷻ) knows best.
