❝ Abū Bakr Al- Ṣiddīq رضي الله عنه was known for his knowledge and faith. The Prophet ﷺ even testified that he would enter Paradise!
(With that) he still used to recite in the last rakʿah of the Maghrib prayer, after Al-Fātiḥah:
﴿رَبَّنَا لَا تُزِغۡ قُلُوبَنَا بَعۡدَ إِذۡ هَدَيۡتَنَا وَهَبۡ لَنَا مِن لَّدُنكَ رَحۡمَةًۚ﴾
“Our Lord! Do not let our hearts deviate after you have guided us. Grant us Your mercy.”
For indeed, hearts are between the two fingers of the Most Merciful, and He turns them as He wills.
So beware! Beware! Of the deviation of hearts, the confusion of thoughts, and the changing of truths in minds!
This deviation results from the following:
• Lack of work.
• Contempt for others.
• Disgracing others.
• Engaging in talks without action.
• Belittling others (their honor).
• Defaming others without justification.
• Mocking others.
• Abandoning support for the religion of Allah when one was able to do so.
• Collaborating with the oppressors against the reformers. Allah جل وعلا said:
“...nor would I [Allah] take the misleaders as helpers.” ❞

Steadfastness
❝ Lower your gaze, seeking guidance and steadfastness through it, for fear that you might slip into what is forbidden. Allah تعالى said, warning against sins:
﴿فَتَزِلَّ قَدَمٌ بَعْدَ ثُبُوْتِها﴾
{Lest your feet will slip after they have been firm.}.
And He, the Almighty, said on the tongue of al-rāsikhūn fi l-ʿilm (those firmly established in knowledge), teaching His servants:
﴿رَبَّنَا لَا تُزِغْ قُلُوبَنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَيْتَنَا﴾
˹They say,˺ “Our Lord! Do not let our hearts deviate after you have guided us.
Ponder: {after You have guided us} and reflect upon slipping after firmness and deviation after guidance, so that you may realize the difficulty of steadfastness and the danger of relapse. It is necessary to strive hard against this, and we must not approach the forbidden, for whoever approaches the forbidden is likely to fall into it.
That is why the Prophet ﷺ used to supplicate:
«يَا مُقَلِّبَ القُلُوبِ، ثَبِّتْ قَلبِي عَلَى دِيْنِكَ»
“O Overturner of hearts, make my heart firm in Your religion.”
