‎Abu Al-Dardā رضي الله عنه said:

‎“By Allāh, a man can be tested with a fitnah in a single hour and turn away from his religion.”

‎[al-bayhaqī, shuʿab al-īmān 1/857]

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:

"Do not make the dog (arrogant jahil) important by responding to it every time it barks at you. Leave it in delight with its barking."

Nuh - 71:12

وَيُمۡدِدۡكُم بِأَمۡوَٰلٍ وَبَنِينَ وَيَجۡعَل لَّكُمۡ جَنَّٰتٍ وَيَجۡعَل لَّكُمۡ أَنۡهَٰرًا

'And give you increase in wealth and children, and bestow on you gardens and bestow on you rivers."

އަދި މުދާތަކާއި، ދަރިންގެގޮތުން، އެކަލާނގެ ތިޔަބައިމީހުންނަށް مدد ދެއްވާނެތެވެ. އަދި އެކަލާނގެ ތިޔަބައިމީހުންނަށްޓަކައި ބަގީޗާތައް ލައްވާނެތެވެ. އަދި އެކަލާނގެ ތިޔަބައިމީހުންނަށްޓަކައި ކޯރުތައްވެސް ލައްވާނެތެވެ.

English - Ibn Kathir
And give you increase in wealth and children, and bestow on you gardens and bestow on you rivers.

meaning, `if you repent to Allah, seek His forgiveness and obey Him, He will increase your provisions for you and provide you with water from the blessings of the sky. He will cause the blessings of the earth and crops to grow for you. He will increase your live stock animals for you and give you more wealth and children. This means that He will give you more wealth, more children and gardens with various types of fruits. He will cause rivers to flow among these gardens.'

This is the position of the invitation with encouragement. Then He made it balanced for them by using intimidation. He said,

مَّا لَكُمْ لَا تَرْجُونَ لِلَّهِ وَقَارًا

Nine pieces of advice from Surah al-Hujurāt in ways how to deal with people.

1. Avoid much suspicion.
2. Do not spy.
3. Do not riddicule/scuff.
4. Do not backbite.
5. Do not insult
6. Do not call each other by offensive nicknames
7. [Always] Reconcile.
8. [Always] verify news.
9. Act justly.

‎“O people! You will not attain that which you love until you refrain from that which you desire. You will not attain that which you hope for expect with patience (sabr) upon which that you hate.”

‎Ḥasan al-Baṣrī ﺭﺣﻤﻪ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ said:

‎“Some people have modesty in their clothes but arrogance in their hearts.”

قلب نقي في ثياب وسخة خير من قلب وسخ في ثياب نقية

‎"Far better a pure clean heart in unclean garments than a impure heart in clean garments."

Fudayl ibn ‘Iyad (رحمه الله) said:

‎“You consider yourself to be something, while even an insect obeys Allāh more than you do.”

“And all of them (the shuhadā’), from what I saw, share one attribute in common: a peaceful heart towards the believers, and a restrained tongue against the faithful. All of the martyrs, you will find that they do not speak harmful speech, and they did not speak more than was needed; their deeds made them busy. Their shortcomings made them busy from concerning themselves with the shortcomings of others.”
