Former Speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council Dr. Aziz Dweik was arrested at the beginning of the Israeli war in Gaza. Despite being 76 years old and residing in the West Bank, he was held in administrative detention by the Israeli occupation for nearly 8 months.

During his time in detention, he suffered significant weight loss due to starvation and was reportedly neglected in terms of healthcare in Israeli detention camps.
