Sewing is one of those skills everyone should know. Master these stitches and start practicing on different fabrics. Make sure your thread tension is just right!

Sewing machines are a must-have. Like my Brother sewing machine straight out of 1950, they last a lifetime. Anyway, once you master this machine you can start making anything from clothing, to kit and packs.

During the first world war in Australia there was a restriction of styles of clothing available to both men and women because of shortages in fabrics. Everyday dress became more sombre due to a lack of good quality dyes – and in any case, bright colours were seen to be too gay and frivolous.

The manufacture of ready-made clothing might have decreased during wartime, but there was an explosion in hand knitting for soldiers.

Thousands of women and schoolchildren knitted throughout the war. Over 1.3 million pairs of socks were sent overseas – often with a small personal note inside the sock informing the digger who had knitted the garment along with a brief message.

Knitting provided comfort not only to the men who received the garments but also for the women who knitted. It was a meditative way to pass the time and feel they were contributing to the war effort.

If America is to heal this country must stop being a home of whores.
Family is what builds societal and economical back bones.
You hardly see large families or mom and pop stores.
It’s a damn shame.

Many speak of tradition and yet practice none. One should not accept something because you hate another, but because you love it. Have a good Burns night. Remember the man that preserved so much culture for us to inherit today. To Robert Burns, sláinte. P🦌
