JUST IN: 🇨🇳🇺🇸 China trolls President Trump on X over his tariff policy.
🇳🇮🚫✝️🙏 — The dictatorship of Daniel Ortega in Nicaragua has prevented the return to the country of a priest who traveled to the United States and has banned the enactment of the Passion of Christ across the territory

🖥 "The Sandinista dictatorship is preventing Father Jalder Hernández from entering Nicaragua. The priest was on a pastoral mission in the United States," stated lawyer and researcher Martha Patricia Molina, who investigates and denounces the persecution of Christians in the country, according to information published by the 100% Noticias website on Monday (14).

➡️ Hernández is the parish priest of the Santiago Apóstol Church in Jinotepe, in the department of Carazo, and in 2018, he was assaulted at the parish by paramilitaries loyal to Ortega. Molina stated that his case is the second of a priest being blocked from returning to Nicaragua during the current Lent.

Additionally, as part of the persecution of Christians in the country, Ortega's dictatorship has banned enactments of the Passion of Christ for the third consecutive year. Public processions have also been prohibited — on Sunday (13), the Palm Sunday procession at the Managua Cathedral, the capital of the country, was held in the church’s atrium.

🇪🇺🤝🇽🇰🇧🇩🇨🇴🇪🇬🇮🇳🇲🇦🇹🇳 European Commission issues proposed list of safe countries of origin

The European Commission has proposed the creation of an EU-wide list of safe countries of origin to accelerate asylum procedures across the European Union.

On Wednesday, the commission announced that asylum applications from nationals of Kosovo, Bangladesh, Colombia, Egypt, India, Morocco and Tunisia will be processed more swiftly.

The proposal still requires approval from both the European Parliament and EU member states.

Under the new plan, member states would also be allowed to designate countries of origin as safe earlier in the asylum process than currently permitted.

This would enable the use of fast-track procedures or border procedures for applicants from these countries.

The commission envisions this option in cases where the average recognition rate for asylum applications from a given country is 20% or lower.

🇺🇸🇮🇷❗️ — FAA Contractor busted for spying for the Iranian Regime, sending Iranian Intelligence 175 GB of sensitive data

Abouzar Rahmati, a naturalized U.S. citizen and former FAA contractor, just pleaded guilty to spying for Iran.

For seven years, he funneled 175 gigabytes of sensitive aviation and energy intel straight to Tehran.

From 2017 to 2024, Rahmati — an ex-lieutenant in Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, a U.S.-designated terrorist group — used a cover story, met with Iranian intelligence, and even roped in his brother to deliver stolen files back home.

Sentencing is set for August 26.

He’s looking at up to 15 years behind bars.

🇺🇸🇨🇳🇮🇷🛢 US imposes sanctions on a Chinese refinery accused of buying Iranian oil

The Treasury Department imposed sanctions Wednesday on a Chinese refinery accused of purchasing more than $1 billion worth of Iranian oil, saying the proceeds help finance both Tehran’s government and Iran’s support for militant groups.

The sanctioned refinery in China’s Shandong province received dozens of shipments of crude oil from Iran worth more than $1 billion, the Trump administration said. Some of the petroleum came from a front company for Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard, U.S. authorities said.

Officials also announced that several companies and vessels involved in the shipments were added to the sanctions list.

The new penalties were imposed by the Office of Foreign Assets Control and follow earlier efforts by the administration to disrupt the flow of Iranian oil, which authorities say is carried by Iran’s “shadow fleet.” The United States has already penalized dozens of individuals and vessels involved in the shipments.

“Any refinery, company, or broker that chooses to purchase Iranian oil or facilitate Iran’s oil trade places itself at serious risk,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said.

📰 Yesterday, a French newspaper claimed that my detainment in France last summer ‘finally’ forced Telegram to comply with European rules. This is false. Telegram has always been compliant with EU laws. 🇪🇺

👮‍♂️ After last August, it was the French police that finally started to ‘comply with European rules’ — by sending their requests to Telegram in the legal way described by the EU’s Digital Services Act. As a result, French courts have been able to receive IP addresses of criminal suspects from Telegram. 🧑‍⚖️

🌐 The information about this legal way to reach us could be obtained on our apps, website or just by googling ‘telegram eu police’ — long before my detainment in France. Why the French courts and police had been ignoring this process clearly defined by EU law is still a mystery to us, but it’s unfair to say that Telegram somehow ignored European rules. Paradoxically, it was French law enforcement that for some reason had been ignoring them. 🤔

🇫🇷 I love France and respect its police force, so I didn’t want to embarrass anyone by pointing out the above. But I cannot ignore when such obvious misinformation about Telegram is spread. 🙅‍♂️

🥈 Telegram is the 2nd most popular messaging app in the world. We spend millions of dollars every year to ensure our compliance with laws across the globe. In the EU in particular, we always start preparing to comply with laws years before they even come into force. 🗓
