Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund ADQ, conglomerate IHC, opens new tab, and the UAE's biggest lender by assets First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB), opens new tab are planning to launch a new stablecoin backed by dirhams, they said on Monday, as the Gulf country deepens its investment in cryptocurrencies.

The stablecoin, which will be fully regulated by the UAE's central bank, will be issued by FAB subject to regulatory approval, the three companies said in a statement.

"This stablecoin will be used as a reliable digital currency across a wide range of everyday scenarios - by citizens and consumers, businesses and institutions," they said.

Spanish Prime Minister Sanchez commented on the sudden blackout :

At this point, according to the grid operator, almost 50% of the power supply has already been restored. Improvements are noted in almost all regions. Therefore, the goal remains the same: to continue to restore the supply in the coming hours, throughout the next night.

The power grid operator is still unable to specify exactly how long it will take to return to normal life. The power supply has never dropped to zero, as technicians call it, and measures are now being taken to gradually restore the power supply, this is being done to avoid new failures in the coming hours.

As for the cause, the technicians report that at 12:33 local time, 15 gigawatts of production were suddenly lost from the system in just five seconds. This has never happened before. To put it into perspective, 15 gigawatts is equivalent to about 60% of the country's demand at the time. Experts have not yet been able to determine what exactly caused the sudden power outage, but they will. All government agencies and private operators are working together to understand what happened.
