EU will not recognize Crimea as part of Russia, Kallas says
"The EU is preparing a “plan B” on how to keep economic sanctions against Russia should the Trump administration abandon Ukraine peace talks and seek rapprochement with Moscow, according to the bloc’s top diplomat.
US President Donald Trump had vowed to bring a swift end to Russia’s more than three-year-long war against Ukraine, but has failed to force a peace agreement during his first 100 days in office as Moscow and Kyiv both reject elements of his administration’s proposals.
“It’s a question whether the Americans will want to leave,” Kaja Kallas, the EU’s high representative for foreign and security policy, told the Financial Times. “We see signs that they are contemplating whether they should leave Ukraine and not try to get a deal with the Russians because it’s hard.
(...) Kallas said that no EU country would accept recognition of Crimea as Russia, an element of the US proposal that is a major red line for Kyiv.
“I can’t see that we are accepting these kind of things. But we can’t speak for America, of course, and what they will do,” she said. “On the European side, we have said this over and over again . . . Crimea is Ukraine.”

"A key Trump demand of the Zelensky government was quietly dropped as a condition of peace talks as well as the Ukraine minerals deal, which was finally signed this week.
Washington is no longer seeking to pressure or force President Volodymyr Zelensky to hold elections that could result in his being ousted office for the sake of peace, according to information in The Telegraph.
"The demand has been quietly dropped from the latest set of American proposals for a ceasefire," The Telegraph writes. "The American decision to stop demanding elections is designed to placate the Ukrainian officials who have argued against swathes of a seven-point peace plan tabled by Mr Trump."

"In the wake of the unprecedented Sunday direct hit on Israel's Ben Gurion international airport by a ballistic missile launched by the Houthis of Yemen, Israeli leadership has vowed to hit back hard. "The attack on Ben Gurion Airport has removed all restrictions from our perspective," Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has stated. He emphasized, "Whoever harms us will be harmed sevenfold" - amid an emergency meeting of Israel's security cabinet. Al Jazeera and regional media say that response has come on Monday. There are reports that 30 Israeli jets are bombing Yemen's main port, along with US military assistance:
Al Jazeera’s Ali Hashem has reported that Houthi-affiliated media has said a total of nine sites have been hit in Hodeidah.
Israeli media has reported both at least 30 Israeli fighter jets were involved in strikes on Yemen, which come a day after the Houthis attacked the Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, with a missile landing near the facility.
A senior US official has said the raids were being carried out in coordination with the US. Al Jazeera could not immediately confirm that information
(...)
Crucially, Israeli media reports citing military officials confirmed that the US-supplied THAAD missile as well as the Arrow defense system failed to intercept the inbound ballistic missile. Israel's defenses tend to be most effective for the type of shorter-range missiles launched by Hamas and Hezbollah."

"Escalation in Jammu and Kashmir: situation on the border between India and Pakistan
Tensions remain high on the India-Pakistan border, with the Indian Air Force on high alert amid rising incidents along the line of contact.
🔻 More about the activities of the Pakistan Armed Forces:
▪️ In the last 24 hours, local clashes between units of the Pakistani and Indian Armed Forces have been reported in the areas of the populated areas of Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Rajaur, Mendahar, Naushera, Sunderbani and Akhnoor.
▪️ Amid growing tensions, the Pakistanis have redeployed 90 troops from Rawalkot to the Line of Control area. They are also supplying weapons and ammunition there. And an operational meeting was held in Azad Kashmir, attended by about 180 military command personnel.
▪️ Also, since May 4, the centralized supply of communications equipment (radio stations, portable Iridium satellite communication terminals), navigation, night vision devices and power supply devices has begun.
▪️ On May 3, the Pakistani Armed Forces conducted a training launch of the Abdali operational-tactical missile from the Sonmiani test site at a range of up to 450 km. Also, a naval exercise is planned off the coast of Pakistan from May 5 to 6.
📌 But more significant was the visit of the Turkish corvette Buyukada to Karachi. From May 7, together with the Pakistanis, they plan to conduct the exercise Turgutreis-12, which was last held in the Mediterranean.
🔻 More about the activities of the Indian Armed Forces:
▪️ In response to Pakistani naval activity, Indian sailors will conduct live-fire training exercises until May 7, as part of which two sea areas and airspace above them in northeastern
parts of the Arabian Sea.
▪️ The administration of the Indian Gun Carriage Factory, which produces artillery ammunition, also announced that all employees would be recalled from leave.
▪️ In addition, flight tests of a controlled aerostat designed for reconnaissance and optical-electronic surveillance from high altitudes (from 17 to 20 km) were successfully conducted.
❗️ The most important development was that the Indian leadership allegedly stopped the flow of water to Pakistan through the Baglihar Dam on the Chenab River. Similar measures are also planned at the Kishangaga Dam on the Jhelum River. However, there was no confirmation of this, except for reports in the local media.
The nuance is that if the water through the Baglihar dam is blocked, the Indian Salal hydroelectric power station, which is located downstream of the Chenab , will suffer. Therefore, in this case, this news looks like a deliberate leak with the aim of increasing the degree of tension between the countries.
In the Pakistani segment of the Internet, this worked like a charm, as some politicians have already threatened to strike Indian facilities in the Indus basin. And the Pakistani Armed Forces units have urgently begun to move command posts deeper into safe areas with developed logistics.

"Russia has reported that it repelled a drone attack on Moscow as the capital city prepares to host a major military parade with foreign leaders in attendance.
Russia’s air defence systems intercepted “four drones flying towards Moscow”, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on Monday. The attack appears intended to unsettle Moscow’s preparations for events marking the end of the Great Patriotic War, commonly known as World War II elsewhere, on May 9.
President Vladimir Putin has called for a 72-hour ceasefire to mark the occasion starting on May 8. However, Ukraine has demanded instead a 30-day truce aimed at agreeing to a permanent ceasefire in the conflict that began when Russia invaded in February 2022.
Sobyanin said in a post on Telegram that there were no reports of injuries or damage.
However, the attack did prompt a brief halt to air traffic at Moscow’s Domodedovo airport. Aviation regulator Rosaviatsia confirmed flights were suspended for about 90 minutes overnight to ensure air safety."
