🇷🇺🌐📰 The Independent: Poland warns Nato has three years to prepare for attack by Russia

➡️ New fears of Russian escalation across Europe have emerged after a German think tank said Western countries must prepare for a direct attack from Russia.

In a statement the German Council on Foreign Relations wrote:
— “With its imperial ambitions, Russia represents the greatest and most urgent threat to Nato countries.

“Once intensive fighting will have ended in Ukraine, the regime in Moscow may need as little as six to ten years to reconstitute its armed forces.

“Within that timeframe, Germany and NATO must enable their armed forces to deter and, if necessary, fight against Russia. Only then will they be in a position to reduce the risk of another war breaking out in Europe.”

➡️ But, the head of Poland’s national security agency estimated that Russia could attack Nato countries within three years in an interview with Nasz Dziennik.

➡️ Jacek Siewiera suggested that an attack could come from Nato’s eastern flank which includes countries such as Poland, Estonia, Romania and Lithuania. He estimated they had three years to prepare for a confrontation.

Chinese export restrictions on graphite — a key material for EV batteries — have taken effect this week starting December 1. Export permits will now be required for certain graphite products. Gigafactories need millions of tons a year, and America currently…
China has imposed export controls on graphite, a material used in electric vehicle batteries, as Beijing hits back at US-led restrictions on technology sales to Chinese companies.

China, which dominates global supply chains for the mineral, will require special export permits for three grades of graphite, the commerce ministry and the General Administration of Customs said on Friday.

The new export controls, which China said were introduced on “national security” grounds, are set to escalate geopolitical tensions between Beijing and Washington and its allies over tech supply chains. They also underline China’s dominance of global supplies of dozens of critical resources.

The Houthis have already done this; they have the necessary means of destruction for this. Saudi Aramco infrastructure was especially hard hit.

🇵🇦🌊⚠️A water crisis in the Panama Canal is causing ships to circumnavigate continents; alternatives to bypass the drought issue in the canal add costs at a time when governments worldwide are trying to control inflation

‼️ Lake Gatun, a crucial part of the canal system that provides fresh water to its locks, has received little rainfall this year as El Niño triggered a devastating drought. As a result, the Panama Canal Authority reduced the number of authorized ships passing through from an average of 36 to 38 per day in the past to an expected 18 in February, half the normal volume.

🔼 If canal restrictions worsen, other major grain exporters like Brazil, Ukraine, and Russia are likely to seek to fill the gap in U.S. products in Asia. Brazilian grains have already been traded more actively due to the growing canal restrictions.

🇺🇸 The United States is a major exporter of grains – soybeans, corn, wheat – to Asia, many of which typically exit the Gulf Coast and travel through the Panama Canal.

🔽 However, low water levels in the Mississippi River have prompted some American producers to transport their grains by train to the Pacific Northwest and then ship them to Asia.
