🇪🇺🤝🌍 President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, pledges to invest 150 billion Euros in Africa.

von der Leyen wants to create jobs and clean energy on the African continent.

It is unclear what the EU gets in return from this investment nor how will the EU balance this investment with support for Ukraine, the ReArm Europe defense plan and the Green Deal.

#BREAKING | Türkiye and Egypt Announce First Joint Naval Drills in 13 Years

Türkiye and Egypt will conduct joint naval and air exercises dubbed "Friendship Sea" (Bahr El Sadaka) in the eastern Mediterranean from September 22-26, marking a significant thaw in bilateral ties after over a decade of strains.

The drills, involving Turkish frigates, submarines, and F-16 jets alongside Egyptian naval units, aim to enhance interoperability and regional security cooperation. A Distinguished Visitors Day is set for September 25, attended by both nations' naval commanders. This comes amid warming Ankara-Cairo relations following diplomatic resets on issues like Libya and energy disputes.

🇺🇸🙎‍♂️🤝🇵🇱📰 ZeroHedge | Poland Receives Single Largest Delivery Of M1 Abrams Tanks From US | September 17, 2025:

"The Western allies continue to bolster defenses of the largest NATO 'eastern flank' country which borders Ukraine, parallel to Russia ramping up its drone and missile attacks across the war-ravaged country.

Poland this week has received 38 new M1A2 Abrams tanks from the United States, marking the largest single delivery so far under a defense agreement signed in 2022. It was the third delivery under the contract.

The delivery brings the total number of American-made tanks delivered to Poland to 85, with more expected through 2026, based on the contract.

(...)

American military magazine Stripes previously wrote:

For the Polish army, the Abrams tank serves as the centerpiece of a modernization effort that has picked up momentum in the aftermath of Russia’s 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Patriot missiles, Apache attack helicopters, High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems and F-35 fighter jets are other major weapons systems that Warsaw has been busy adding to its arsenal.

Patriot missiles, Apache attack helicopters, High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems and F-35 fighter jets are other major weapons systems that Warsaw has been busy adding to its arsenal.

In the wake of last week's Russian drone incursions into Polish airspace, Warsaw officials have only grown more hawkish in wanting to 'stand up' to Russia."

The formal reason is pressure from the US on Hungary and Slovakia, which continue to purchase Russian energy resources.
🇺🇸🗯🇸🇰🇭🇺🤝🇷🇺🛢📰 ZeroHedge | Graham Threatens 'Consequences' On Hungary & Slovakia Over Russian Energy Purchases | September 17, 2025:

"United States Senator Lindsey Graham has blasted Hungary and Slovakia over their ongoing purchases of Russian energy, warning they'll face "consequences" if they don't end their reliance.

The anti-Russia hawk from South Carolina said on social media that President Trump was "right to demand that Europe stop buying Russian oil." He admitted that while most of Europe has done so, it is "now virtually down to Hungary and Slovakia."

"I hope and expect them to step up to the plate soon to help us end this bloodbath," he said. "If not, consequences should and will follow."

Russia building its alternative to Starlink, space agency head says.

Backed by Roscosmos, the project aims to challenge U.S. billionaire Elon Musk’s SpaceX aerospace company
🇷🇺⚙️🌍‼️📡📰 Reuters | Russia Developing Starlink Rival at 'Rapid Pace,' Space Chief Says | September 17, 2025:

"MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia will soon have a rival to Elon Musk's satellite internet service Starlink, as it tries to shift away from outdated thinking that has allowed SpaceX to win the crown of satellite dominance, Russia's space chief said on Wednesday.

Starlink says it operates the world’s largest satellite constellation with more than 8,000 satellites, and Musk is credited by Russian officials with revolutionising the launch of space vehicles - to Russia's cost.

Dmitry Bakanov, the new 39-year-old head of Russia's Roscosmos space agency, admitted in an interview with Russian TV host Vladimir Solovyov that the space agency had to move away from "inertia" and attract more young talent."

🇺🇸🇨🇦⚡️🚢📰 Bloomberg | Nations Aiming for Arctic Power Can’t Get Enough of These Ships | The US and Canada want more icebreakers to counter Russia and China in the Arctic, as the polar region — and competition for it — heats up | September 16, 2025:

"At a shipyard in Finland last month, workers cut the first steel for a new icebreaker ship. Over the next three years, about 10,000 tons of the metal will go into the hull before the vessel is carried across the ocean to Quebec for completion.

The CCGS Arpatuuq, expected to launch in 2030, will be the first heavy icebreaker built — at least partly — in Canada in more than half a century. The C$3.3 billion ($2.4 billion) ship will be 139 meters (about 450 feet) long, with a helipad, hangar and room for 100 crew members. “Moon pools” located at midship will provide direct access to the Arctic Ocean for polar research and, potentially, military surveillance.

A second heavy icebreaker, the CCGS Imnaryuaq (both are named for Inuit locations) is already under construction at Vancouver’s Seaspan Shipyards. Canada has only a single heavy icebreaker in service at the moment, and it’s in bad shape. In all, the government has funded two dozen new icebreakers to more than double the current fleet."

❗️🇮🇹 #Italy. Milan right now looks like a literal war zone.

Violent clashes broke out in Milan after Giorgia Meloni refused to recognise Palestine — observers say Antifa-linked groups are behind the chaos.

From Rome to Milan, Bologna to Genoa, Livorno to Naples, Turin to Florence, Bari to Palermo, and over 60 more cities across Italy — workers are massively rising in solidarity with Palestine.
