🇺🇸🤝🇮🇷 — NYT's Farnaz Fassihi reports the Trump administration has struck a deal with Tehran to begin deporting Iranian individuals denied visa or arrested for crimes committed in the USA from the US, with the first flight carrying 100 deportees already on its way to Iran.

➡️ Iranian officials said that the plane, a U.S.-chartered flight, took off from Louisiana on Monday night and was scheduled to arrive in Iran by way of Qatar sometime on Tuesday. And the U.S. official confirmed that plans for the flight were in the final stages.

👺 All the officials spoke to The New York Times on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss details publicly.

📝 One of the officials said that Iran’s foreign ministry was coordinating the deportees’ return and that they had been given reassurances that they would be safe and would not face any problems. Still, he said, many were disappointed and some even frightened.
