🇵🇦 Dry season threatens Panama Canal

The Panama Canal has implemented water-saving measures to maintain maximum capacity in its reservoirs during May through December rainy season, however, the current conditions are creating an unprecedented drought, and thus far has produced the driest year on record since 1950.

Earlier, in April 2023, the Panama Canal had announced that a temporary draft level adjustment for Neopanamax vessels transiting the interoceanic route would come into effect due to the recent drought, which has led to low levels in the lake system.

The Canal is closely monitoring the development of weather events affecting water availability in the canal watershed, which according to forecasts, could worsen with the arrival of the El Niño phenomenon.

🏴‍☠️ 🇷🇺 Wagner Group financier Yevgeny Prigozhin announced on June 11 that he had received an order from the Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) to subordinate his forces to Russian military command.[15]

Prigozhin published a claimed segment of the letter from the Russian MoD, which instructs Wagner and other Russian volunteer military formations to inform the Joint Staff of Russian Grouping of Forces about their numbers of forces, reserves, and the supplies they have received from the Russian MoD by June 15.[16] Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu previously announced on June 10 that Russian volunteer personnel must sign contracts directly with the Russian MoD by July 1.[17] Prigozhin later claimed that Wagner is receiving 2.5 times more recruits after the recent “provocative announcements about the need to terminate the existence of Wagner private military company [PMC],” stating that Russian volunteers are joining Wagner to avoid signing contracts with the Russian MoD.[18] Prigozhin accused the Russian MoD of using this formalization effort to harm Wagner amidst the ongoing Ukrainian counteroffensives.[19]

Già in passato finse di ritirarsi da Bakhmut, poi finse di sospendere le azioni di combattimento della Wagner. Oggi nei fatti ha finto un colpo di stato. Quindi chi è Prigozhyn: uomo dalla smisurata ambizione e desiderio di potere imperiale oppure fedele Chef del presidente russo? È troppo presto per dare un giudizio razionale, troppo strani gli avvenimenti di oggi, troppi gli stravolgimenti della realtà da ambedue le parti, assurda la chiacchierata sotto un portico di Prigozhyn e del vice ministro della difesa che presidiava Rostov sul Don, incomprensibile la totale assenza di combattimenti nella sede del Quartier Generale dell’operazione militare speciale di Rostov, anomala l’assenza in video del ministro della difesa (Shoigu) e del capo di stato maggiore (Gerasimov), mentre parlavano ai militari il generale Surovikin (con un mitra a portata di mano) e il generale comandante del GRU. Se é stata una Maskirovka, é stata la più complessa e folle della storia, se è stata realtà ha superato la fantasia del nostro migliore analista predittivo. Presto sapremo, presto capiremo, e se vedremo (o non vedremo) dimettersi Shoigu o Gerasimov avremo parte della nostra risposta.
