🇧🇷🤡🤝🇵🇦 — 🇺🇸At a ceremony in Panama City, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) stated that Brazil “fully” supports Panamanian sovereignty over the Panama Canal, a stance that directly clashes with Donald Trump’s objectives regarding the canal.

“For nearly three decades, Panama has managed this route, which is fundamental to the global economy, in an efficient, safe, and non-discriminatory manner. During this afternoon’s visit, I was impressed by the structural, technological, and operational leap achieved since 2012, when I last saw the locks. Panama is Brazil’s main trading partner in Central America. In 2025, we saw a 78% increase in bilateral trade. But we can reach much higher levels, and we are willing to import more Panamanian products.”

🏛 The president also took the opportunity to announce that he had sent to the National Congress a proposal for Brazil’s formal accession to the “Panama Canal Neutrality Protocol.”
