Germany lays out ‘exercise scenario’ for a potential conflict between NATO and Russia https://www.euronews.com/2024/01/16/germany-lays-out-exercise-scenario-for-a-potential-conflict-between-nato-and-russia
🌐🇷🇺🇪🇺📰 Euronews: Germany lays out ‘exercise scenario’ for a potential conflict between NATO and Russia

➡️ The German Ministry of Defence has sketched out a vision of how Russia's invasion of Ukraine could spillover into a NATO-wide conflict.

➡️ A secret plan by the German government preparing for a potential Russian aggression against NATO has been leaked, revealing that the country’s Ministry of Defence is bracing for a possible all-out European war in the near future.

➡️ According to German newspaper Bild, which has seen the plans, the “exercise scenario” sketched out by the German government foresees an incoming build-up of Russian troops in Belarus and the exclave of Kaliningrad, Russia’s most westerly territory, putting pressure on Poland’s border.

➡️ In response to this increased threat, the plan forecasts that NATO will deploy its troops to eastern Europe, heightening tensions in the region.

➡️ What might happen next is hard to predict, but the German government has painted a picture of what a possible escalation of the conflict could look like, with Russia using Belarus as a military launchpad once again.

🇩🇪 🇷🇺 🇺🇦 Leaked German military documents laid out a doomsday scenario where Russia wins in Ukraine then invades Europe

🔶️ The documents, produced by Germany's defense ministry, imagine a situation in which Russia launches a massive spring 2024 offensive to take advantage of waning Western support.

⬛️ In this scenario, it defeats Ukraine.

🔶️ It envisages the face-off coming to a head in early 2025, with Russia seeking to take advantage of the upheaval that could follow a new US administration taking office after the 2024 presidential election.

🔶️ Polish security minister Jacek Siewiera warned in December that an attack could come in as little as three years, and would likely target NATO's eastern flank.

Talks underway for US withdrawal as ISIS ‘no longer a threat’: Iraqi PM Despite Baghdad's insistence to see the exit of the US-led coalition, Washington is set to deploy hundreds of more troops to the war-torn nation
🇺🇸⚡️🏴🇬🇧 The Cradle | Reviving ISIS: A US weapon against the Resistance Axis | Is it a coincidence that the world's foremost terror organization is being revived just as the US struggles under a multi-front assault on its hegemony in West Asia? More curiously, both ISIS and Washington's targets are exactly the same | January 16, 2024:

"Iraqi security sources are warning of an ISIS revival in the country, which coincides all too neatly with the spike in Iraqi resistance operations against US bases in Iraq and Syria, and with widening regional instability caused by Israel's military assault on Gaza.

More than six years after declaring victory over the terrorist organization, Iraqi intelligence reports now indicate that thousands of ISIS fighters are emerging unscathed, under the protection of US forces in two regions of western Iraq.

(...)

According to intelligence reports reviewed by The Cradle, at its height, ISIS consisted of more than 35,000 fighters in Iraq – 25,000 of these were killed, while more than 10,000 simply “disappeared.”

🇩🇰©️🚢🏴 ZeroHedge | Maersk Warns "Significant Disruptions To Global Shipping Network" As Red Sea Attacks Persist | January 20, 2024:

"President Biden's second week of military strikes against Iran-backed Houthi anti-ship missile bases and continued attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea by the rebels have raised serious concerns about supply bottlenecks jeopardizing global growth.

On Thursday, top container shipper AP Moller-Maersk sent a memo to customers, warning how the global shipping network is fracturing because of the elevated risks in the Red Sea:

"While we hope for a sustainable resolution in the near-future and do all we can to contribute towards it, we do encourage customers to prepare for complications in the area to persist and for there to be significant disruption to the global network."

🇪🇺😡🇷🇺🇺🇦🇪🇺🏴 ZeroHedge | Davos Admits Possibility Of Ukraine Defeat - Claims Putin Will Target EU Next | January 23, 2024:

"In a move that would have been unthinkable a year ago, the WEF has formed a discussion panel at their annual Davos conference noscriptd “What If Ukraine Loses?” The panel represents, at the very least, an admission by the globalists that Ukraine could be defeated by Russia despite the deluge of money, armaments and intel assets that Ukraine has been given access to by western governments.

Since 2022, the narrative has shifted from talk of complete victory over Russia including the retaking of the Donbas and even Crimea, to merely holding the current front and keeping a steady supply of ammo and recruits.

The realities on the ground cannot be denied. The long vaunted “counter-offensive” that was supposed to crush Russian forces was a complete failure. No significant ground was gained and no significant victories have been won. It was a considerable propaganda error to hype up the counter-offensive the way Ukraine did, because when it turned out to be a dud all their other claims quickly came under suspicion."

🇾🇪🆗🇷🇺🇨🇳🚢🏴 ZeroHedge | Houthis Declare Safe Passage For All Russian, Chinese Ships In Red Sea | January 19, 2024:

"In a remarkable development, and at a moment European retailers and factories are beginning to bear the brunt of the global shipping chaos and soaring Red Sea transit risk, the Houthis have declared safe passage for Russia and China.

A senior Houthi official, Mohammed al-Bukhaiti, mentioned these US rivals by name in an interview with the Russian outlet Izvestia on Friday. "As for all other countries, including Russia and China, their shipping in the region is not threatened," he said, stipulating this will remain as long as they are not linked to Israel or its supporters.

"Moreover, we are ready to ensure the safe passage of their ships in the Red Sea, because free navigation plays a significant role for our country," he added, but then underscored that attacks on ships will continue if they are "in any way connected with Israel."

🇿🇦🚢 Just in time to go through South Africa's ports that the ANC government has run into a nightmarish state of chaos and disfunction.

🔸The container backlog at our 3 major ports stood at 100 000 at the beginning of December.

🔸The congestion crisis at South Africa’s state-run ports has resulted in cargo ships having to wait 215+ hours at Port Nqura and 32 hours to enter Port Elizabeth port. Meanwhile, the wait to enter the Durban port stood at 227+ hours at the end of Nov.

🔸According to the state-owned enterprise in charge of South Africa's ports, Transnet, this severe shipping backlog will only be cleared by February or March 2024.

🔸The situation has become so dire that the CEO of Transnet described it as "Rome is burning"

🔸“The average South African [doesn't] realise what a complete and utter catastrophe Transnet is. It is way worse than Eskom (state-run power monopoly)"

🇿🇦🚢 Bad for business – government drops the maritime ball

The general volume of vessels and the sharp increase in maritime traffic around the Cape of Good Hope are both serving to underscore the notion that the Department of Transport (DoT), Treasury and the South African Revenue Service (Sars) are responsible for neglecting the local ocean trade industry.

According to Unathi Sonti, executive chairperson of the Maritime Business Chamber (MBC), about 13,000 vessels call at local ports every year, while more than twice that number sail around South Africa on east-west voyages.

Add to that the 53% increase in traffic around our shores since December due to liners avoiding the military conflict south of the Suez Canal, and the local maritime business could be booming because of the country’s strategic location.

Unfortunately, the poor planning and consistent underperformance in evidence at South African ports have, for now, put paid to any hopes of maximising the profit potential created by the current supply chain upheaval in the Red Sea.

🇺🇸📞🇸🇾❗️📰 Foreign Policy: America Is Planning to Withdraw From Syria—and Create a Disaster

➡️ Since Hamas’s brutal attack against Israel on Oct. 7 and the resulting Israeli military campaign in the Gaza Strip, tensions and hostilities across the Middle East have reached fever pitch. And with such a complex regional crisis playing out, it should not come as a surprise that the Biden administration is reconsidering its military priorities in the region.

➡️ It should be cause for significant concern, however, that this could involve a full withdrawal of U.S. troops from Syria. While no definitive decision has been made to leave, four sources within the Defense and State departments said the White House is no longer invested in sustaining a mission that it perceives as unnecessary.

➡️ Active internal discussions are now underway to determine how and when a withdrawal may take place.

➡️ The unprecedented international intervention launched in 2014 by the United States and more than 80 partner nations to defeat the terror group’s so-called territorial state was remarkably successful, with the final pocket of territory in Syria liberated in early 2019.

➡️ But the situation in neighboring Syria is more complex. With approximately 900 troops on the ground, the United States is playing an instrumental role in containing and degrading a persistent Islamic State insurgency in northeastern Syria, working alongside its local partners, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

🇪🇺🏦🏧ECB asks some lenders to monitor social media for early signs of bank runs.

The European Central Bank has asked some banks to closely monitor activity on social media to detect a worsening in sentiment which could lead to a deposit run, two banking executives with knowledge of the request told Reuters.

European regulators have sharpened scrutiny of banks' liquidity after the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank and Credit Suisse in March last year, the people said, requesting anonymity because the discussions are private.
