“Venezuela supplies maybe 3-4% of China’s imported oil.”
“But Iran was somewhere between 15-23%.”
Gordon Chang told me that President Trump is “going after the Chinese” with his war in Iran.
“He is doing it indirectly.”
“He’s cutting off their sources of oil.”
“President Trump may allow the Venezuelans to sell oil to China, but not at the heavily discounted rates that China was benefiting from.”
“And Chinese factories are now dependent on cheap oil.”
“Well, they’re not getting it anymore.”
“If they get their oil, they’re gonna have to pay market prices.”

Iranian drone strike hits UK's RAF Akrotiri base in Cyprus
"The Iran war has just for the first time, and rather quickly given it's only the third day of the conflict, expanded to include an EU nation in the Mediterranean. Iranian drones have reached Cyprus and at least one has made ground impact.
The British Royal Air Force (RAF) base in Akrotiri, Cyprus came under attack Monday morning, with an Iranian drone striking the runway in the early hours, several reports say. This comes as Britain has mulled directly joining Trump's Iran operation, but now appears to be pulling back from the prospect.
"Our force protection in the region is at the highest level and the base has responded to defend our people," a British Ministry of Defence spokesperson has told international media."

Iranian Drones Strike EU Country In War First
Iranian-made drones may have been launched from nearby Lebanon...
Starting in February 2025, a new rule called Regulation (EU) 2025/40 took effect. This measure, formally named the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), emerged from the European Green Deal framework. Although adopted near the close of 2024, its official publication came weeks later, in January 2025. From August 12, 2026 onward, it applies broadly across all 27 countries in the EU. Stricter standards begin then - covering how much packaging can be used, how easily it recycles, what labels appear, and what details must be shared. Businesses like hotels are included, along with firms that provide the supplies. While focused on waste, the shift touches operations far beyond disposal alone.
Admin comment: This is what Europe is worried about.

🚢 Strait of Hormuz traffic drops sharply amid regional escalation
Vessel activity in the Strait of Hormuz has shifted materially following recent US strikes on Iran and the subsequent regional escalation. According to real-time traffic analysis, transits through the chokepoint fell by approximately 70% after 16:00 UTC on 28 February, compared with levels 12 hours earlier.
MarineTraffic playback shows visible behavioural changes across the region over the past three days, including U-turns, idling, reduced speeds, and last-minute diversions, particularly after maritime security warnings were issued. The United Arab Emirates and Qatar are privately lobbying allies to help them persuade President Donald Trump to reach for an off-ramp that would keep US military operations against Iran short, according to people familiar with the matter.
The countries are seeking to build a wide coalition to advance a swift and diplomatic end to the conflict, the people said, in order to prevent regional escalation and a prolonged energy price shock. They were speaking on condition of anonymity discussing matters that have not been made public.
A Qatari assessment shared with Bloomberg News warned that if shipping lanes in the region remain severely disrupted by the middle of this week they would expect to see a more significant market reaction for natural gas prices than Monday’s sharp spike.
Privately, both the UAE and Qatar are working to quickly improve their air defense capabilities, the people familiar with the matter said. Officials at Qatar’s International Media Office and the UAE’s foreign ministry didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.
The UAE has requested assistance from its allies with medium-range air defense, while Qatar has asked for help to counter drone attacks — which have emerged as a greater threat than ballistic missiles — the people added. Qatar’s stocks of Patriot interceptor missiles will last four days at the current rate of use, according to an internal analysis seen by Bloomberg News.

On Saturday, Iran hit a military base in Bahrain with missiles and drones. There were 300 British personnel on the base, some within a few hundred yards of the strike.
Last night, a drone hit RF Akrotiri in Cyprus. There were no casualties in this strike.
It is important for me to say that our bases in Cyprus are not being used by US bombers.
