Nuclear weapon-themed markets aren’t new on the prediction market platform, but public outcry about the contracts has apparently forced the platform to delete them.

Polymarket has removed long-running markets that let users bet on the likelihood of a nuclear weapon detonating, amid the current conflict with Iran and criticism over war-related insider trading.

The nuclear-detonation contracts, which at times implied risks as high as 19 percent and drew millions of dollars in volume, have renewed concerns that insiders could profit from advance knowledge of military actions.

The controversy comes as the Commodity Futures Trading Commission weighs rules that would bar regulated exchanges from listing event contracts tied to war, terrorism, assassination and other activities deemed contrary to the public interest.

UAE banks are assuring customers that all banking services are operating normally. The Commercial Bank of Dubai (CBD) said all branches, digital platforms and banking systems remain fully operational with no disruption. The bank managed 2.7 million customer interactions and said strong liquidity, capital buffers and business continuity frameworks support uninterrupted services.

“All banking services, systems, digital platforms, and customer engagement channels remain fully operational, with no disruption to branch, digital, or remote banking services. These uninterrupted operations are supported by robust business continuity frameworks, strong liquidity buffers, and prudent risk management practices,” said Commercial Bank of Dubai.

Russia and China have criticised the US and Israeli attacks on Iran, with Moscow saying it had seen no evidence that Tehran was developing nuclear weapons, and Beijing demanding an immediate halt to the joint attacks.

Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang ⁠Yi told his Israeli counterpart, Gideon Saar, on Tuesday that the attack on Iran came as negotiations between Washington and Tehran had “made significant progress, including addressing Israel’s security concerns”, China’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

“Regrettably, this process has been interrupted by military action. China opposes any military strikes launched by Israel and the US against Iran,” Wang told the Israeli foreign minister during a phone call, according to the ministry.

“China calls for an immediate cessation of military operations to prevent the further escalation and loss of control of the conflict,” Wang said.

“Force cannot truly solve problems; instead, it will bring new problems and serious long-term consequences,” he added.

According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Saar agreed to a request from Wang to take “concrete measures to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel and institutions” in Iran.

TikTok will not introduce end-to-end encryption (E2EE) - the controversial privacy feature used by nearly all its rivals - arguing it makes users less safe.

E2EE means only the sender and recipient of a direct message can view its contents, making it the most secure form of communication available to the general public.

Platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and X have embraced it because they say their priority is maximising user privacy.

But critics have said E2EE makes it harder to stop harmful content spreading online, because it means tech firms and law enforcement have no way of viewing any material sent in direct messages.

🇲🇩🚨 The Moldovan government has declared a state of emergency for 60 days following the rise in natural gas prices as a consequence of the Israel-Iran War.

Moldova cut itself off from Russian gas in 2024 and has since relied on gas imports from Romania/the EU and both have depleted reserves and are unable to import more.

The Moldovan government advised its citizens, especially farmers, to not buy diesel fuel in excess and will limit energy exports to maintain a safe emergency reserve of fuel.
