Your Excellency Mr. President!

The Turkish population living in South Azerbaijan is today under a serious security and existential threat. The recent bombings and the deepening security vacuum in the region are making the humanitarian situation more severe with each passing day. Certain armed terrorist groups are attempting to establish control over Urmia and the surrounding ancient Turkish lands, as well as over other historic Turkish settlements in the area. These developments are creating the risk that the historical lands of the South Azerbaijan Turks will be occupied.

The Turkish soldiers who, in 1918, saved Urmia and the Urmia Turks from genocide remain forever in the historical memory and gratitude of Urmia and its people; today, the same decisiveness and support are of vital importance for the security of our compatriots.

Türkiye’s east is not merely a border line; it is the most critical geopolitical belt for national security. However, terrorist organizations are preparing to carry out genocide against the Turks in the west of South Azerbaijan. Urmia and other Turkish cities stand on the brink of occupation, and from Türkiye’s eastern border, they plan to ethnically cleanse the Turks.

Yes, the real target is Türkiye.

Under these conditions, the hope of the Turkic world — you, one of the world’s strongest and most respected leaders — we urgently demand that you take immediate diplomatic and political steps to protect our compatriots in South Azerbaijan and to prevent any possible occupation attempt.

These matters are of the utmost urgency.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio contacted his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan and pledged full support for Ankara in its right for self-defense

Dear Mr. President,

As a result of the bombing of civilian infrastructure and residential areas in South Azerbaijan, innocent civilians are losing their lives. Women, children, and families are under serious threat. The humanitarian situation in the region is steadily worsening.

At the same time, reports that certain armed Kurdish groups are attempting to move to establish control over Urmia and surrounding areas are deeply concerning. Such attempts place the Azerbaijani population in a multidimensional security threat and increase the risk of ethnic confrontation in the region.

Our people do not want to experience another Karabakh tragedy in Urmia. The fate of none of our cities should end with occupation, destruction, or forced displacement.

Dear Mr. President,

Your international standing and your relations with regional actors, including the State of Israel, provide an important opportunity to influence the current situation through diplomatic means. We believe that, as always, the security of the Azerbaijani people and the protection of national interests remain your highest priority.

We respectfully request that you undertake effective and urgent initiatives at the international level to defend our compatriots in South Azerbaijan and to prevent the bombing of the civilian population. Timely action can help prevent a larger catastrophe and the spread of terror in the region.

We hope that the Azerbaijani state will stand by its compatriots and take the necessary steps to ensure peace and security.

For good reasons, we always will stay very ambiguous about when Article 5 is triggered.
