Circle’s policy rep says the company has seen evidence that Tether is contributing to terrorist financing.
Representatives from crypto giants Coinbase and Circle have urged the U.S. government to crack down on non-compliant international digital asset firms – some of which include their biggest competitors.
Grant Rabenn, Legal Director of Financial Crimes at Coinbase, told Congress on Thursday that criminals are seeking out “offshore platforms” to avoid anti-money laundering rules enforced by “onshore regulated exchanges.”

🇩🇪🇪🇺🇺🇸 Olaf Scholz blocked Ursula von der Leyen as Nato chief ‘because she would be too tough on Russia’
The German chancellor was 'categorically against' her becoming Nato secretary-general, Welt am Sonntag reports
Ms von der Leyen had been too critical of Putin, and this could “prove to be a disadvantage in the long term” in the view of Mr Scholz, the sources added.
The name of Ms von der Leyen, a former German defence minister who is currently the European Commission president, has been floated as one potential successor.

And it happened again.
🇪🇷 🔥 📹 — Over the past day, February 17, 2024 AD, major riots took place in Hague, Kingdom of Netherlands after clashes broke out between groups of Eritrean refugees in the Dutch Kingdom, following a trend of clashes happening all over the world in the past months.
As always, the clashes started due to differences between ethnic-political groups of Eritrea, as while one of the groups support the Far-Left Eritrean Regime of Isaias Afwerki, the others support the multiple factions of Eritrean opposition, with this going out of control in a matter of hours.
Dozens of cars and private property were damaged or even destroyed as consequence of the clashes between the Eritrean rioters, with Dutch Riot Police and firefighters being called to quell down the clashes.
Supporters of the Eritrean Regime, as always, blamed the violence on "infiltrated Ethiopian/Tigrayan agents" trying to stir up tensions, although no🇪🇹 Ethiopian or 🇪🇹 Tigrayan flag or symbol was seen at the demonstrations.
Eritrea, a totalitarian regime in East Africa, since 2020 during the height of the War in Tigray has been directly involved in the occupation of parts of the Ethiopian rebel region, with the country's Army actively participating in looting and war crimes against autonomist rebel forces there.

🇺🇸🗳 CNBC caught on Hot Mic while interviewing META’s President of Global Affairs after he spouts off some wild numbers on META’s trust & safety team & their budget to essentially censor people.
After CNBC appears to advocate for the Government to help censor election misinformation on social media, she then asks:
CNBC: How many people do you have working on [election misinformation]?
META: We have around 40,000 people working on integrity and safety..
[CNBC HOT MIC]: 40,000?? But they only have 67,000 employees…
META (still going): We spend around $20 BILLION on this issue… we spent $5B last year ALONE on “Election Integrity”

Government spending on pensions as a % of GDP will double (and in some cases triple) for many of the countries on this list. Defense, health, & education spending will have to adjust to the new reality. Spain+Italy may never meet the 2% of GDP on defense target.
