🇻🇪⚠️ — More than half of Venezuela's population still lived in poverty in 2023, amidst persistent income inequalities and fading effects of a tepid economic recovery

📈 The National Survey of Living Conditions (ENCOVI), published by the Institute of Social Research of the Andrés Bello Catholic University (UCAB), showed that 51.9% of the country's population remained in poverty last year, a slightly higher figure than in 2022.

➡️ After years of economic collapse and high inflation that led around 7 million people to leave the country, there was a slight economic recovery, but the number of poor people did not decrease substantially.

➡️ According to the study, last year saw a halt in improvement, and fewer households were able to escape poverty, despite the existence of some social programs for cash transfers and food distribution.

❗️ By the end of 2021, the Venezuelan economy rebounded after dictator Nicolás Maduro relaxed economic controls in 2019 and allowed transactions in foreign currencies, providing relief to various sectors.

‼️ However, since last year, some economic activities have shown signs of slowdown due to reduced consumption in the country.

➡️ The Chavista regime, which has not published the poverty percentage for 2023, recently launched a social program to combat inequality and poverty, which includes providing additional bonuses through a digital system.

🇨🇱📝👁 — The president of Chile, Gabriel Boric, enacted the so-called Private Security Law, which will regulate the sector amid an increase in insecurity and violence in the Latin American country.

➡️ The measure will allow "greater territorial control by Carabineros and the Investigative Police." Boric announced that he ordered the Minister of the Interior, Carolina Tohá, to initiate the process for the law to take effect "in less than three months."

"This law, part of the 23 projects of the 'Prioritized Agenda on Security Matters,' represents the most robust advancement in our history in perfecting legislation on security, adding up to a total of 51 approved projects."

➡️ The new norm includes harsher penalties for those who attack private guards, while also establishing a series of regulations, such as requiring specific qualifications to practice the profession, as well as modernizing certification processes.

❗️ In Chile, there are over 2,500 security companies, employing more than 86,000 accredited guards. According to the news portal BioBio Chile, there was no comprehensive regulation on private security in the Latin American country.

⚠️ The law has been enacted at a time when the president of Chile has announced an extensive package of measures to combat insecurity due to the increase in crime and organized crime in several areas of the country, including the metropolitan region of Santiago.

🇰🇵🔫🏴 ZeroHedge | Kim Jong Un Drives Tank In Live-Fire 'Preparations For War' Drill | March 15, 2024:

"North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has staged some interesting military theatrics ahead of next week's expected visit of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to South Korea for the third Summit for Democracy.

The recent renewal of ongoing major US live-fire exercises on the peninsula has also triggered sharp denunciations from Pyongyang. On Thursday Kim oversaw his own live-fire exercises, while riding in the north's newest battle tank.

The North Korean leader wore a black leather jacket and mounted a new tank, supposedly driving it himself, according to state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

State media ominously described the exercise as part of "preparations for war":

Kim expressed “great satisfaction” that the tank – first unveiled during a 2020 military parade – demonstrated its striking power in its inaugural performance display and told his troops to bolster their “fighting spirits” and complete “preparations for war”, KCNA said."

"The U.S. House of Representatives recently passed a ban on imports of Russian uranium. The bill must pass the Senate before becoming law.

In this graphic, Visual Capitalist's Bruno Venditti visualizes how much the U.S. relies on Russian uranium, based on data from the United States Energy Information Administration (EIA).

Currently, Russia is the largest foreign supplier of nuclear power fuel to the United States. In 2022, Russia supplied almost a quarter of the enriched uranium used to fuel America’s fleet of more than 90 commercial reactors."

Lithium Americas’ Thacker Pass project in Humboldt County, Nevada, is located next to a mine site that contains the largest-proven lithium reserves in North America, DOE said.

The U.S. Administration plans to extend the $2.26 billion loan under the Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing Loan Program.
