🇨🇴 Colombia's largest criminal group accepts president's offer to broker peace deal
Colombia's largest criminal group said Tuesday it has accepted President Gustavo Petro's offer to start peace negotiations, but the next steps in any talks were not immediately clear.
The Gaitanista Self Defense Forces of Colombia — called the Gulf Clan by Colombia’s government — has been described by analysts as a threat to Petro’s ongoing efforts to broker peace deals with the nation’s remaining rebel groups.
Petro on Monday night said he was willing to start peace negotiations with the group if it "dares" to leave drug trafficking, stops taxing local businesses and stops profiting from the transit of migrants heading to the United States.
The group responded on Tuesday with a statement on X saying it accepted the president’s invitation to start negotiations. It denied being involved in the smuggling of migrants.

🇲🇽🇺🇸 AMLO Prepares to take over Vulcan property in Mexico’s Mayan Riviera
The Mexican government is preparing to take control of a quarry and port owned by Vulcan Materials Co. on the nation’s Caribbean coast after years of negotiations failed to produce a deal to buy the property, according to people familiar with the plans.
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s administration is planning to declare the land south of the resort city of Playa del Carmen a natural protected area. That would prevent the US construction firm from extracting limestone at the site it has owned for decades.
🗣 “We always seek negotiation, agreement, dialog, always — and that is what is being done in this case,” López Obrador said. “But of course, when we see that they want to impose themselves without being right because they feel very powerful, well then there’s no other option than to apply the law.”

WORLD ALERT
The Maduro regime unleashes brutal repression against my campaign teams. They have arrested Henry Alviarez, National Coordinator of Organization of my Campaign Command, and Dignora Hernández, Political Coordinator. Additionally, they have issued arrest warrants against several other members of the National Command, including my Campaign Chief, Magalli Meda.
These cowardly actions aim to close Venezuela's path towards change and freedom in peace and democracy. Venezuelans, I ask for strength and courage in these difficult times. Today, more than ever, we need to be united and steadfast to continue advancing towards our goals.

The SEC has no compelling reason to reject applications to launch an Ethereum ETF, says Coinbase chief legal officer Paul Grewal.
According to the Coinbase lawyer, the SEC has treated Ethereum (ETH) as a commodity, not a security, for many years. The CFTC and federal courts have unanimously confirmed that the asset has this status.
Coinbase‘s lawyer referred to statements made by the agency’s director of corporate finance, William Hinman, in 2018. He also recalled SEC Chair Gary Gensler’s speech in front of Congress before he was appointed head of the commission. In his remarks, Gensler took a similar position.
