🇸🇻 El Salvador keeps buying one #Bitcoin a day, undeterred 😤
I carried out this small experiment:
- I wrote a simple Python noscript that copies the directory of Signal's local storage to another location (to mimic a malicious noscript or app)
- I ran the noscript in the Terminal and got a copy of my Signal data on my Mac
- I booted a fresh macOS installation in a virtual machine
- I transferred the copy of Signal's data to the VM and placed it where Signal expects it: ~/Library/Application\ Support/Signal
- I installed Signal and started it
- Signal started and restored my session with all the chat histories 😳
- I exchanged a couple messages with a contact from the VM and it worked 😳
- Then, I started Signal on the Mac
- I got three sessions running in unison: Mac, iPhone, and VM 😳
Messages were either delivered to the Mac or to the VM. The iPhone received all messages. All of the three sessions were live and valid. Signal didn't warn me of the existence of the third session [that I cloned]. Moreover, Signal on the iPhone still shows one linked device. This is particularly dangerous because any malicious noscript can do the same to seize a session.
Perhaps this flaw is what makes some users think that Signal has a "backdoor" as it is easy for sophisticated attackers to target a victim who's using the Mac app and see their chats. (The same may be also true for the Windows app)

TL;DR: Don't install @signalapp for macOS, it is not secure.

🇳🇪 🇨🇦 🇷🇺 Niger: Government revokes Canadian GoviEx mining permit in uranium mine Madaouela
🔶️ GoviEx Uranium (TSXV: GXU) no longer has rights over the perimeter of the Madaouela mining permit following the Niger government’s decision on Thursday to withdraw its licence, dealing a big blow to the development of one of the world’s largest uranium projects.
🔶️ The Vancouver-based uranium miner had feared that its licence could be revoked if mining could not start by July 3, 2024, a deadline set by Niger’s military leaders who came into power around this time last year.
🔶️ In a press release, the company said that the licence withdrawal “does not follow the procedure prescribed under the applicable mining code” in Niger, and it reserves the right to challenge the decision before the competent national or international jurisdictions.
🔶️ According to the World Nuclear Association, Niger is a top 10 uranium producer in the world and the second-largest producer in Africa. The ruling government currently has a 20% stake in GoviEx’s Madaouela project, which contains one of the largest uranium resources globally.
🔶️ Since January, Niger has temporarily suspended the granting of new mining licences and also ordered an audit of the sector. Madaouela now represents the second high-profile uranium project that the self-appointed government has taken away.

A hacker breached OpenAI’s internal messaging systems early last year, stealing details of how OpenAI's technologies work from employees. Although the hacker did not access the systems housing key AI technologies, the incident raised significant security concerns within the company. Furthermore, it even raised concerns about the U.S. national security, reports the New York Times.

Despite this, it will end up the 3rd biggest party in France thanks to the ad-hoc alliance formed by Macron's market-liberals and the leftist New Popular Front who only by withdrawing the 3rd place candidates across France, could their combined voter bases manage to defeat RN.
In other words, the popular support was low for both LREM and the NFP and only through a trick could they score victory, repeating the British elections which saw Reform UK, gain a lot of votes but few seats, helping to remove Conservative MPs in favor of Labour who won the three-way race.
