🇻🇪‼️ Venezuela: UN Fact-Finding Mission expresses alarm over human rights violations in post-election context

GENEVA - The Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela expresses its deep concern over the violence and allegations of human rights violations reported in the country following Sunday’s presidential vote.

In the early hours of Monday, the National Electoral Council (CNE) announced the partial result of the presidential elections, declaring President Nicolas Maduro the winner. Since then, thousands of people - including men, women, children, and the elderly - have taken to the streets across the country to protest the results.

The Mission has been receiving credible information about detentions, injuries, and deaths, as well as violence perpetrated by security forces and armed civilian groups supporting the Government (known as “colectivos”) during these protests. The recorded incidents occurred in at least 17 of the 23 states of the country and in the capital district.

To date, the Mission has recorded at least six deaths and dozens of injuries among the protesters, with no official data available. The Attorney General reported the death of a member of the armed forces and injuries of 46 military and police personnel.

Additionally, the Mission has learned that security forces and individuals in civilian clothes, identified prima facie as members of “colectivos,” fired firearms at the protesters.

🇻🇪🗳 🇪🇺EU will not recognise Venezuela election result until all votes counted, Borrell says

European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said on Wednesday the bloc could not recognise Venezuela's election result until all votes were counted and records provided, amid international concerns over the integrity of the vote.
The election authority in Venezuela said President Nicolas Maduro had won a third term in office on Sunday with 51% of the vote to extend a quarter-century of socialist rule, despite exit polls that pointed to an opposition win.

🇻🇪⚡️ — The leader of the Venezuelan opposition, María Corina Machado, made a strong statement to the world about the situation in the country:

"Venezuela and the entire world know that violence is Maduro's regime's last resort.

Now, after the overwhelming and unappealable electoral victory that we Venezuelans achieved on July 28th, the regime's response is murder, kidnapping, and persecution.

I alert the world to the cruel and repressive escalation of the regime, which to date has resulted in more than 177 arbitrary detentions, 11 forced disappearances, and at least 16 murders in the last 48 hours.

This is Maduro's criminal response to the Venezuelan people who took to the streets with their families, in their communities, to defend their sovereign decision to be free. These crimes will not go unpunished.

To the families of the murdered, to the prisoners, to the persecuted, to those injured while defending the electoral victory of July 28th, I send my words of solidarity and my conviction that we will consolidate the victory we have obtained.

I have told you that we will go to the end, and we will go to the end! Now we have a new reason: the sacrifice you make and have made. I love you all."

🇭🇺🚫🇪🇺📃🇻🇪🇺🇸 Politico: Hungary blocks EU bid for unified statement on Venezuela election
The EU’s top diplomat Josep Borrell cited claims the presidential ballot was ‘marred by numerous flaws and irregularities.’

The EU failed to put on a united front on Venezuela’s contested election after Hungary vetoed a statement that expressed concern about alleged “flaws and irregularities” in the voting and called for greater transparency.

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro was declared the winner of the country’s July 28 presidential election by a government-controlled electoral body, which gave him about 51 percent of votes to 44 percent for his opponent, Edmundo González Urrutia. However, the government failed to explain how those results had been calculated and verified.

EU countries wanted to adopt a joint statement raising concerns about the result on Monday but were prevented by Budapest’s stance, two officials familiar with the discussions told POLITICO.

🌎🇻🇪🗳 G7 Foreign Ministers’ Statement on Venezuela

We, the G7 Foreign Ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States of America and the High Representative of the EU, express our solidarity with the people of Venezuela, who peacefully exercised their right to vote in large numbers on July 28 to shape the future of their country.

Independent domestic and international observers’ reports have raised serious concerns about the announced results of Venezuela’s Presidential elections and about the way the electoral process was conducted, especially regarding the irregularities and lack of transparency in the final tabulation of the votes. It is of paramount importance that the result reflects the will of the Venezuelan people.

We call on relevant representatives to publish the detailed electoral results in full transparency and we ask electoral representatives to immediately share all information with the opposition and independent observers.

As the process unfolds, we call for maximum restraint in the country and for a peaceful, democratic and Venezuelan-led solution.

🇦🇷🥇⁉️The mystery of Argentina’s gold: Milei admits that it was transferred abroad, without specifying the quantities or destination

While the government acknowledges that gold reserves have been sent outside the country, there’s no official information available regarding the purpose of the operation. The gold is now exposed to the risk of being seized, due to long-standing claims against Argentina made by foreign creditors

Argentina’s reserves, held by its Central Bank, include almost two million troy ounces of gold, valued at about $4.5 billion. But lately, there’s a question that’s on everybody’s lips: where is it? Was it taken out of the country? Did some of it remain within Argentina, while the rest was transferred abroad? Well, the official information only offers partial answers.
