🇺🇸🇲🇽 The U.S. Launches Its First Gas Liquefaction Project in Mexico
Washington continues to expand the LNG market in Latin America, marking a significant milestone with the establishment of its first liquefaction plant in Mexico.
The country has recently dispatched its inaugural shipment from the Fast LNG Altamira project. This medium size facility, with an annual capacity of 2 billion cubic meters of gas, is intended for the domestic Mexican market.
The project relies entirely on U.S. gas, transported via a direct pipeline from Texas. The U.S. Treasury Department has granted permission to export American raw materials that are liquefied in Mexico.
For Mexico City, this arrangement is highly advantageous. If the process proves successful, numerous American companies may opt to liquefy their resources on Mexican soil.

🇮🇳 India Emerges as the World's Leading LNG Buyer
In June 2024, India imported 2.612 million tons of LNG, marking a 45% increase from the 1.796 million tons imported in June 2023, according to the country's Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
This figure represents one of the highest levels in the national trade statistics. The historical peak occurred in February 2020, with 2.672 million tons, driven by an unusual surplus of LNG in the market and a sharp decline in global prices during the pandemic.
India also imported a similar volume of LNG in May 2024, totaling 2.654 million tons.
The surge in imports was largely due to unusually hot weather in the region. May and June saw temperatures significantly exceed the seasonal norm. However, by July, temperatures in the country began to normalize.
As a result, India was the most active LNG buyer in the region in June, outpacing South Korea's more moderate increase in activity (+17%) and China's stable purchases (+1%). In contrast, Europe reduced its LNG imports by one-third.
The United States became the largest LNG supplier to India in June, accounting for 29% of all deliveries and increasing shipments 3.5 times to 752,000 tons. Qatar was the second-largest supplier, contributing a quarter of the supplies (403,000 tons).

🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia's Oil Export Revenues Hit Three-Year Low
Saudi Arabia's oil export revenues have plummeted to their lowest point in three years, a result of declining oil prices and the nation's strategic decision to curb production.
Revenue from crude oil and petroleum products dropped to $17.7 billion in June, according to data from the country's primary statistics agency. This marks a 9% decrease compared to the same period last year and a 12% reduction from May.
Oil income remains a cornerstone of Saudi Arabia's economy, playing a crucial role in supporting Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's ambitious plans to diversify the economy through massive investments in sectors ranging from electric vehicles to semiconductors and soccer.
As a consequence of the reduced oil revenues, the kingdom has been forced to either delay or scale back several of its most significant projects, including elements of the expansive new desert city, Neom.

🇨🇱 President Gabriel Boric rejects the TSJ ruling: “it ends up consolidating the fraud”
The Chilean president indicated in a message on his X account:
“Today the Venezuelan Supreme Court has finally consolidated the fraud. The Maduro regime obviously welcomes with enthusiasm its sentence, which will be marked by infamy. There is no doubt that we are facing a dictatorship that falsifies elections, represses those who think differently and is indifferent to the largest exile in the world, comparable only to that of Syria as a result of a war.”

"The Governments of Argentina, Costa Rica, Chile, Ecuador, the United States, Guatemala, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, the Dominican Republic, and Uruguay categorically reject the announcement by the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) of Venezuela, which yesterday claimed to have concluded a supposed verification of the results of the July 28 electoral process, issued by the National Electoral Council (CNE), and attempts to validate the baseless results issued by the electoral body.
Our countries had already expressed their rejection of the CNE's declaration, following the denial of access to opposition representatives to the official count, the non-publication of the voting records, and the subsequent refusal to conduct an impartial and independent audit of all of them.
The Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela warned of the lack of independence and impartiality of both institutions, the CNE and the TSJ.
The undersigned countries reiterate that only an impartial and independent audit of the votes, which assesses all the records, will ensure respect for the sovereign popular will and democracy in Venezuela.
Along with the rest of the international democratic community, we will continue to insist on respect for the sovereign expression of the Venezuelan people, who on July 28 spoke out peacefully and decisively.
Likewise, we express our deep concern and rejection of the human rights violations committed against citizens who peacefully demand respect for the people's vote and the restoration of democracy."

— For now, in Brazil, silence prevails. Brazil has been absent from all statements rejecting political persecution in Venezuela and has avoided criticizing Maduro at every opportunity. Lula's smile already shows his concern about the matter.
