Tehran is threatening in secret diplomatic backchannels to target the oil-rich Arab Gulf states and other American allies in the Middle East if their territories or airspace are used for an attack on Iran, said Arab officials.

➡️ Israel has threatened Tehran with a severe reprisal after Iran fired about 180 ballistic missiles at Israel earlier this month, with some Israeli officials and commentators pushing for damaging strikes on Tehran’s nuclear facilities or oil infrastructure.

➡️ In that event, Iran has warned it would respond with devastating hits on Israel’s civilian infrastructure, and would retaliate against any Arab state that facilitated the attack, the officials said.

➡️ The Arab officials said the countries that Iran has threatened include Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, all of which host U.S. troops.

➡️ These states have told the Biden administration that they don’t want their military infrastructure or airspace to be used by the U.S. or Israel for any offensive operations against Iran, the officials said.

🔶 Japanese 30 year government bonds now yield more interest than Chinese 10 year bonds.

🔶 Deflationary conditions have rocked China's economy as the PBoC has refused to devalue the Yuan, a move historically done to maintain Chinese industrial competitiveness.

🔶 Chinese officials and central bank authorities unleashed strong domestic stimulus shortly after the US Fed cut rates in September in hopes of lifting the Chinese economy and Chinese stock prices.

🔶 Beijing has been reluctant to stimulate its economy or devalue the Yuan, as devaluation would damage the Yuan's nascent attempt at becoming a credible reserve currency overseas.

🔶 At the same time, Japan has finally seen a whiff of inflation not seen since the 1980s. This has put the Bank of Japan on its current path of rate hikes, while the rest of the world, and especially China, are on a path of rate cuts and disinflation.

🔶 This is likely due to Japan running out of workers now outweighing depressed spending caused by an older population skew.

🔶 Similar to Europe a decade ago, China is now experiencing its first wave of mass retirement, while the baby bust has not yet fully caught up to drastically erode the size of the Chinese labor force.

Paraguay is to return to Time Zone GMT-3 on the first Sunday of October each year. But this time around the change might become permanent, as President Santiago Peña said Friday he had no problem signing into law the newly passed bill by Congress for the so-called daylight saving time to become effective. “We do not find any reason not to do so,” the head of state pointed out.

“Sunday is the time change to summer time and based on this law, which has been widely debated, it is not a new issue. Of course, there are voices in favor and there are voices against,” he added. “I particularly believe that maintaining a time zone throughout the year ... will also help to simplify many things,” he told reporters.

🇨🇳 - China to issue special treasury bonds to stimulate economy

🇧🇴⚠️⛓🌹 — The Bolivian prosecutor Sandra Gutiérrez announced that an arrest warrant will be issued against former President Evo Morales (2006-2019) so that he can testify before the Bolivian Public Ministry in an investigation into alleged "human trafficking" and "statutory rape."

❌ The former president failed to appear this Thursday to testify in the investigation related to statutory rape and human trafficking, which allegedly involves a minor with whom Morales reportedly had a relationship.

“What corresponds now is to issue the arrest warrant since they (Morales and the other individuals under investigation) have been duly notified without any violation of their rights,” said Gutiérrez, who is the departmental prosecutor of the southern region of Tarija, where the case is being investigated.

🇧🇴⁉️⛓🌹 — The Bolivian National Police announced that they have arrested the father of the woman who accuses former President Evo Morales (2006-2019) of raping her when she was a teenager, for complicity in the acts.

⚠️ The Public Prosecutor's Office reported that between 2014 and 2015, Morales created a "youth guard," "composed of people aged 14 and 15, called 'Generation Evo.'" The parents of the young woman who accuses the former president of assault allegedly enrolled her in this youth guard "with the sole purpose of advancing politically and obtaining benefits to 'profit,' meaning to get what they wanted in exchange for their youngest daughter."

🤝 According to the prosecution, the parents obtained "all kinds of benefits, trips, [even] public positions" through this arrangement, and Morales even instructed that the young woman's mother be a candidate for the Departmental Legislative Assembly of Tarija for his party, the Movement for Socialism (MAS).

💬 The candidacy was blocked due to a criminal record, but the mother was appointed director of a government unit in the Gran Chaco region. The defense for the young woman's parents has not commented on the prosecution's accusations.

💥 In a twist for the Bolivian left, members of Morales' group within MAS announced that a woman claiming to have been a victim of harassment and abuse of power by President Arce has filed a complaint against the current Bolivian leader.

If you’re worried your phone might be spying on you, sharing your data and location without you realizing, then a new report this week will make alarming reading.

“You can’t say no to Google’s surveillance,” the Cybernews research team warns, describing a secretive stream of data they say continually transmits from a new phone to Google’s servers. Even more “concerning,” they say, “the phone periodically attempts to download and run new code, potentially opening up security risks.”

The Cybernews team took a “brand-new [Pixel 9 pro XL] with a new Google account and default settings” and rooted it to enable a man-in-the-middle data interception. The team “proxied the inbound and outbound traffic and used a custom security certificate to decrypt and examine the communications,” albeit rooting the phone disabled some features and so the intercepted data was not complete.

Because the testing took place with a new, default account, the team did not test to see the effect that user changes to privacy and security settings might have. But just as we’ve seen with browsers and apps—given most users maintain broadly default settings, it’s imperative those offer a good degree of out of the box protection.

“Every 15 minutes,” they say, the “Pixel 9 Pro XL sends a data packet to Google. The device shares location, email address, phone number, network status, and other telemetry.” This data, they found, is sent “to various Google endpoints, including Device Management, Policy Enforcement, and Face Grouping.”
