🇻🇪🇬🇾🛢 Venezuela protests oil production in territories disputed with Guyana

The Venezuelan government has protested against the issuance by the Guyana authorities of concessions to multinational oil and gas giants for oil production on the sea shelf and in connection with maneuvers of the US military forces in the disputed territories.

The long-running territorial dispute between the two countries over the ownership of a 159,500-square-kilometer territory west of the Essequibo River, dubbed Guyana-Essequibo, claimed by Caracas, has been aggravated by Guyana's granting of oil concessions to ExxonMobil. The offshore borders of the area are not delimited for now. Moreover, the US plans to deploy a military base in the disputed territory.

"Venezuela informs the international community and transnational energy companies that have illegally obtained permits from the government of Guyana for the exploration and production of hydrocarbons in a large maritime area, the borders of which are not delimited, that these permits are absolutely groundless, contrary to international law and the principles enshrined in the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela," the country's Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

It may look like in search for new oil sources the US and multinational companies are getting ready for a new local conflict. But Venezuela is not in a position to engage in a full-scale military conflict with the United States. The concessions have been issued just few days after the controversial oil deal between Caracas and Washington. The oil production on the shelf of Guyana can be a part of that oil deal.

🛢 🌍 🚢 Infographic: Escalation of Israel-Hamas war could put Middle East oil flows at risk

🔶️ "With war ongoing between Israel and militant group Hamas, oil markets are on edge after Iran warned the conflict could escalate across the Middle East. The region's energy infrastructure and key shipping chokepoints are at risk should the conflict spread, which could send oil prices soaring and dramatically impact supply."

🇩🇪🔋 Siemens Energy asks for state aid

Siemens Energy is considering closing plants and sales offices.

The German energy equipment supplier has experienced significant quality problems at its wind turbine division, which, combined with potential losses from offshore contracts, has caused its shares to plummet more than 50% since June.

The restructuring will entail layoffs within the company.

Siemens Gamesa, the world's leading manufacturer of offshore wind turbines, operates 79 facilities around the world. Some of these businesses may be shut down in the coming year.

🇵🇦🔥❗️ — Over the past 5 days, the key Central American Nation of Panamá has been facing up a nationwide wave of anti-government protests followed by a massive crackdown agains the protesters by the Center-leftist government of Laurentino Cortizo

Such thing happened after the Panamaian Government signed a new 20-year Cobre Panama contract with the Panamaian Government into law just over a week ago with First Quantum Minerals, a Canada-based company.

First Quantum Minerals main investors are the Transnational corporation Blackrock — once its main enemy — and the Chinese Company Jiangxi Copper, its largest shareholder & largest copper producer in Mainland China

The deal would result in First Quantum paying drastically higher Panamanian taxes in exchange of allowing continued operations at the site, the largest copper mine in Central America, under the Canadians, with the company accounting for 4.8% of Panama’s gross domestic product (GDP) in 2021.

Opened in 2019, the open pit Cobre Panama mine, some 120 kilometers (75 miles) west of the capital and 20 km from the Caribbean coast, can produce 300,000 tons of copper per year.

In 2021, Panama's Supreme Court ratified a lower court's ruling that the original concession of mining rights granted to subsidiary Minera Panama until 2037 was unconstitutional. However, despiter it, Negotiations between the government and First Quantum were reopened and finalized earlier this year.

Protesters blocked the streets of Panamá cities, including the capital, to protest against Cortizo Government and asking for the total end of operations by the Canadian company, calling the corporation as "Colonial" and "Imperialist"

Netizens reported that alongside government forces, paramilitaries were spotted among peaceful protesters, firing upon the air to disperse the manifestations

According to local medias, 250,000 people took part on the protests only at the capital
