🇮🇱 Prime Minister Netanyahu's Office issued Statement confirming the strikes:

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz have instructed the IDF to act forcefully against the terrorist organization Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

This decision comes after Hamxs repeatedly refused to release our hostages and rejected all proposals presented by U.S. President’s envoy, Steve Witkoff, and other mediators.

At this moment, the IDF is striking Hamas targets across the Gaza Strip to achieve the war’s objectives as set by the political leadership, including the release of all our hostages—both the living and the fallen.

From this point forward, Israel will escalate its military operations against Hamas with increasing intensity.

The operational plan was presented by the IDF last weekend and has been approved by the political leadership.

🇮🇱🪖⚠️ — Israel closes schools in communities around Gaza following the collapse of the ceasefire, according to new Israel Defense Forces' Home Front Commands guidelines

IDF: Following a situational assessment, changes will be made to the IDF Home Front Command's defensive guidelines as of 02:00 today (Tuesday). As part of the changes, the areas of the communities near the Gaza Strip will change from Full Activity to Limited activity, meaning educational activity will not be allowed.

The areas of the Western Negev and Western Lachish remains unchanged - Full Activity.

Guidelines published on the official Home Front Command channels must be followed by the public. Full guidelines are updated on the National Emergency Portal and the Home Front Command app.

🇨🇦🤝🇵🇦⁉️ Cobre Panama mine ready to suspend arbitration against Panama

First Quantum's shuttered Cobre Panama mine has instructed its lawyers to start work to suspend arbitration against Panama, the company said in an internal memo on Friday.

On Thursday, Panama's President said his government will allow the export of 120,000 metric tons of copper concentrate that has been stuck in the shuttered mine for over two years and also allow restart of the power plant used to run the mine.

Later, the country's commerce ministry said any negotiations with the miner could only happen if the arbitration case against Panama was dropped.

"We have instructed our lawyers to meet with the government's legal team to work on suspending the arbitrations ... leading to a solution that benefits workers, communities, suppliers and all Panamanians," Manuel Aizpurua, manager of Cobre Panama said in a memo viewed by Reuters.

First Quantum confirmed the authenticity of the memo.

"Syria’s Interim President Ahmad al-Sharaa signed off on a constitutional declaration for a five-year-long transitional period on Thursday, hoping to centralize power in order to unify the country. Al-Sharaa is the former leader of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), a Sunni Islamist political organization and former insurgent group that spearheaded the lightning offensive that overthrew Bashar al-Assad on December 8. The constitution pledges freedom of speech, rights for women and media freedom and states that any calls for “division and separatism, requests for foreign intervention or reliance on foreign powers are criminalized.”

Al-Sharaa faces the challenges of a country that has been deeply divided along ethnic and regional lines through a bitter 14-year civil war, with many still wary of the intentions of new leadership. While he has made some headway in cooperation in the past week, having signed a pact to integrate the autonomous institutions of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the north and north east of the country into the government, the declaration for the new short-term constitution has also been rejected by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Council, who state that more needs to be done to protect the rights of diverse communities.
