EU Halts Discussion on Possible Confiscation of Frozen Russian Assets
Deutsche Welle reports, citing a leaked document from the March 20 EU summit, that the bloc has stopped debating the seizure of frozen Russian assets.
As one European diplomat told the outlet ahead of the summit, Europe is now considering a future ceasefire and peace talks, with "people starting to realize that holding these assets may be more important than confiscating them without knowing what to do next."
Is that finally something almost smart from the EU?

France and Italy Hinder EU Efforts to Deliver Ammunition to Kyiv
Berlin and Paris are in no rush to fund Kallas’s plans.
While most of the 27 EU member states, gathered in Brussels on Thursday, rallied around allocating critical financial resources for military aid, France and Italy are dragging their feet on committing specific funds.
Discussions in Brussels revealed that even allocating €5 billion (instead of the proposed €40 billion) to purchase 2 million artillery shells will be a difficult task. Kaja Kallas stated that she still hopes leaders will sign off on at least part of this plan.
In general, when the EU promises to scrape together a few more billions for Ukraine or rearmament, they conveniently omit that only two and a half countries in the Union actually generate revenue, while the rest are freeloaders.
Moreover, Germany and France have faced major economic challenges in recent years, so all funding is essentially being allocated as debt for future generations.

US Withdraws from G7 Groups Monitoring Sanctions Compliance Against Russia
According to sources, the US has reduced its participation in all joint groups to zero—Americans are no longer monitoring compliance with the oil price cap, component supplies, or financial sanctions circumvention.
EU officials told Bloomberg that they currently see no hints that Trump intends to tighten sanctions unless Russia agrees to a ceasefire.

🌍 Germany’s €500 Billion Gamble: Defence, Infrastructure, and Climate
The German Parliament (Bundestag) has approved a historic constitutional reform allowing the country to borrow hundreds of billions of euros to boost its defence, infrastructure, and climate initiatives. On March 18, 2025, lawmakers passed the reform with a two-thirds majority, signaling a significant shift from Germany’s long-standing "debt brake" policy. Key components include a €500 billion special fund for infrastructure and climate investments, exemption of defence spending above 1% of GDP from debt limits, and a constitutional commitment to achieve climate neutrality by 2045.
This move reflects Germany’s response to geopolitical tensions and the need for domestic modernization. However, concerns remain about the fiscal prudence of such a massive borrowing spree and the potential for bureaucratic inefficiencies in executing these ambitious projects. Critics argue that the focus on green energy could sideline more practical solutions, while the defence spending surge may strain Germany’s fiscal stability in the long run.
Germany, as Europe’s largest economy, has set a precedent that could influence the entire EU. While the boost in defence and infrastructure may enhance Germany’s readiness and regional security, the push for climate neutrality raises questions about the feasibility and economic costs of green policies. This decision could have ripple effects across global markets, especially if other nations follow suit, potentially reshaping economic strategies worldwide.

In Odessa, a car dealership with BMW X6 cars burned down after a drone attack.
"In the Thursday evening and overnight hours Russia continued to pound Ukraine's key Black Sea port city of Odesa, which was widely described as one of the biggest single drone attacks visited on the city since the war's start.
At least three locals were injured in the attack, and large fires resulted, importantly just as Czech President Petr Pavel was in Odesa on Thursday, after which he traveled back to Kiev.
Odesa's regional governor Oleh Kiper said on Telegram, "Significantly, it was during our meeting that the enemy once again massively attacked the Odesa region" - in reference to meeting with President Pavel."
