🇵🇪🇺🇸⚠️ — Peru's Foreign Minister, Ana Cecilia Gervasi, resigned from her position amid strong criticism following the failed bilateral meeting between Peruvian President Dina Boluarte and her U.S. counterpart, Joe Biden.

📝 Gervasi was scheduled to appear before the full Congress of the Republic to explain the "embarrassing incident" in the U.S. and clarify "whether there was indeed a properly coordinated and scheduled bilateral meeting."

💬 Sources from the local newspaper El Comercio indicated that "Gervasi decided to step down with the aim of not weakening Boluarte's government."

🇦🇫🇺🇳 Poppy growth down 95% in Afghanistan since Taliban ban: UN

Since returning to power in 2021, Taliban authorities have vowed to end illegal drug production in Afghanistan and in April 2022 banned the cultivation of the poppy plant, from which opium and heroin are made.

The report by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) found that poppy cultivation has collapsed by an estimated 95 percent -- from 233,000 hectares (575,755 acres) at the end of 2022 to 10,800 in 2023.

Opium production has followed suit, plummeting from 6,200 tons to 333 tons in 2023.

This year's estimated harvest amounts to 24-38 tons of exportable heroin, compared with 350-580 tons last year.

The UNODC warned of potential "humanitarian consequences for many vulnerable rural communities" due to the sudden contraction of Afghanistan's opium economy, as growers have had to turn to far less lucrative alternative crops.

Farmers' incomes, estimated at $1.36 billion in 2022, have fallen by 92 percent to $110 million this year, according to the UNODC, with the loss expected to impact the country's already struggling economy more broadly.

🇩🇪 🏭 📉 Industry Production In Germany Declined In September For The Fourth Time In A Row

💥 Industrial production in Germany fell by 1.4% in September compared to the previous month, the fourth monthly decline in a row, according to government figures released on Tuesday — A decline steeper than analysts had expected.

💥 The average forecast anticipated only a 0.1% decline in September, according to the report from Germany's Federal Statistical Office.

💥 In the third quarter as a whole, industrial production fell by 2.1% compared to the previous quarter.

💥 The decline was felt across the board, with the exception of the construction industry, which stagnated, all sectors recorded declines.

💥 The production of industrial goods and energy production both fell by 1.7%.

💥 German banker, Jens-Oliver Niklasch, remarked that weak domestic demand and an uncertain global economy continue to be a burden on German industry, with things unlikely to improve in the short term.

A. Russia sanctions
1. Financial sanctions on Russia don't work
2. We sanctioned Russia central bank (red)
3. Russia switched to using Gazprombank (blue)
4. Russia still earned the same amount of cash
5. Only way to fix this is to sanction all banks
6. That's like an oil embargo
