Aditya Prakash, an Indian student at the University of Colorado Boulder, received a $200,000 settlement because a staff member told him to stop using the school microwave to cook his “pungent” food.
The staff member told Prakash that there was a university rule against microwaving food with strong odors in the department kitchen.
The Indian student and his girlfriend began a dispute with the university after the incident and were consequently stripped of funding and supervisory support.
They then sued the university under civil rights law, claiming discrimination and that white people should get used to the smell of Indian food
