Commodities (like energy) have inelastic supply & demand curves.

High supply = low price
Low supply = high price

Trump unleashing the US energy sector walloped the RUS GDP.

Biden sanctions lowered their volume but drove prices higher, making Putin far richer than before & funding Russia's war machine.

The people in charge lack the capacity to understand basic concepts & have too much hubris to ask the people who actually know (like O&G pros or commodities traders -> both of which typically skew conservative):
