In a bid to "to protect the American people from a near-term Democrat-created crisis", Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell has granted Democrats a stopgap debt ceiling extension.
It is not yet clear whether the proposal will be accepted - the vote scheduled for Wednesday afternoon has been postponed, as Democrats consider the offer.
