GA State Senator Burt Jones Urges Audit of Ballot Drop Box Surveillance Tapes | Just the News

An influential Georgia state senator, who is running for lieutenant governor in 2022, says he believes states like his own that used drop boxes to collect absentee ballots last year should audit the surveillance video tapes that were installed at the voting locations to ensure no shenanigans occurred.

“All those drop boxes that were sent throughout Metro Atlanta, you can’t police them if you wanted to, so it just made it ripe for bad actors to game the system,” Republican state Sen. Burt Jones told Just the News in an interview this week.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation recently disclosed in a letter it declined to investigate or audit concerns about possible misuse of drop boxes, saying there wasn't enough evidence to warrant such an action.

Jones said he believes the camera footage should still be checked from November 2020 and the January Senate runoff in his state, and that such audits should become part of the future election integrity measures.

In Georgia, the use of drop boxes in 2020 was not approved by the Legislature but instead implemented in a consent decree and settlement between state officials and Democratic voter mobilization activists like Stacey Abrams. They were placed at scores of locations across the state, most heavily in the blue areas around Atlanta.

What you’re advocating, Claire, is that fair trials no longer exist & that they be dictated by mob rule. Let me explain why what you are demanding is ultimately going to kill you.

First, we are talking about a trial of an American citizen who used a basic Human Right to save his life- the right to self-defense. If that right no longer exists, Claire, then there also no longer exists any reason for restraint on the part of those of us your violence is aimed at. Let me be EXPLICITLY CLEAR here: if the right to self defense no longer exists & everything is murder, then its open season on people JUST LIKE YOU, Claire. Do you understand what I’m telling you? If we are going to prison for self defense then we arent going to hold ourselves to the strict criteria of self defense for use of deadly force, because, what difference does it make?

Be careful what you ask for, Claire.

Secondly, our society is based on the rule of law, on human & civil rights & freedom. If you are saying that the rights to self defense & to a fair trial no longer exist, then our social pact no longer exists. That means anarchy will follow.

The vast majority of police, first responders, veterans of foreign wars are not communists who espouse what you do or stand with you. They are the people your violence is aimed at. Their numbers dwarf your numbers, Claire. And the only thing keeping them from going Kyle Rittenhouse on all of you is a very fragile trust that the right to self defense & the right to a fair trial still exists.

Today Chansley was sentenced to prison for entering the Capitol. While prosecutors couldn't accuse him of violence, they told the judge today that his words "were not peaceful." He'll be in prison through 2024.
