Once upon a time women had no choice but to settle because there were literal laws which which prevented women from accessing education, having careers, & owning property.
The age of anyone "having to settle" has ended.
Many modern women believe they don't need men because they have become so accustomed to what men do for them (infrastructure, food production, police, firefighters etc) Men have always been expected to provide but it seems, ironically, we do the job so well it is now invisible
