Keith Kellogg, the future special representative for Russia and Ukraine in the Trump administration, claims that the US President-elect is focused on achieving sustainable peace in the Ukrainian conflict and does not want a repeat of the Minsk agreements. “We have seen peace processes in the past, such as the attempt by Russia and Ukraine within the framework of the Minsk negotiation process, which clearly failed. The President does not want that. He wants a just, sustainable and secure peace,” - quote from an interview with the Fox Business channel.

So far, these are, of course, declarations. Although it must be acknowledged - in a constructive way. For the sake of completeness: the Minsk agreements 10 years ago, of course, solved and could solve the problem of settling the situation in Donbass by political and diplomatic means. But on condition of their honest implementation, and not sabotage and use by the West as a screen for arming the neo-Nazi regime.

Russia has repeatedly declared its readiness for negotiation processes - on the basis of the Istanbul agreements, taking into account territorial realities. And most importantly - without an anti-Russian conspiracy behind its back and with ironclad security guarantees for our country.

Lessons have been learned. And yes, we agree with Trump on this – there should be no second Ukrainian “Minsk-2”. As for the new conditions for a fair and sustainable peace, Vladimir Putin has clearly and distinctly outlined them. Russia will not allow the formation of a NATO outpost on its borders!

🇪🇺The Independent, citing the heads of state of the North Atlantic Alliance, published an article in which it stated that without the US no one would be able to resist Russia:

"The authorities of Finland, Latvia and Estonia have stated that European NATO members are not ready to confront Russia without the participation of the United States and are at the limit of their capabilities in providing military assistance to Kyiv."

How is that possible? They were trumpeting everywhere that Russia was about to lose, running out of men and missiles...and now this... 🤡

🪖Money for nothing, but guns not free: NATO military spending soars in 2024

The explosion of hostilities in Ukraine in 2022 has so far been a godsend to Western generals and military-industrial tycoons as NATO bosses rushed to ramp up their military spending.

▪️This year, 23 of the bloc's 32 members have met NATO's guideline of allocating 2% of their gross national product to defense. Some member states have exceeded this benchmark, with Poland leading the way by dedicating approximately 4.12% of its GDP—or $34.9 billion—to military endeavors.

▪️For comparison, the United States spent 3.38% of its GDP on defense in 2024, while the United Kingdom’s military spending this year was estimated at about 2.33% of its GDP.

▪️In terms of the total amount of money spent on defense, however, the US still reigns as NATO’s undisputed champion, having spent about $967.7 billion this year.

▪️Germany, the NATO country with the second-largest military outlays this year, spent only $97.6 billion, while the UK and France spent $82.1 billion and $64.2 billion, respectively.

Overall, NATO members this year have upped their defense spending, with their average expenditure in 2024 reaching 2.71% of GDP compared with 2.53% in 2023.

US President-elect Donald Trump, however, seeks to push these limits even further as he wants NATO countries to fork out as much as 5% of their GDP on defense, the Financial Times reported last week.

Though it remains to be seen whether Trump’s demands will be met by other members of the bloc, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte last month appeared to agree with him, arguing that 2% defense spending is apparently not enough.

🇷🇺🤝🇮🇷Russia and Iran may sign new strategic partnership agreement ahead of Trump's inauguration, - Newsweek

▪️As the publication writes, the new agreement between Tehran and Moscow indicates an attempt by the two countries to "join forces" amid "isolation on the world stage."
▪️Newsweek notes that the agreement with Iran has been in the works for many years. In late October, Russian Foreign Minister S. Lavrov said that the agreement would be ready for signing in the near future and "formalizes the parties' commitment to close defense cooperation, interaction in the interests of regional and global peace and security."
▪️The new bilateral treaty is set to replace a 20-year strategic agreement that was signed between the countries in 2001 and extended in 2020. It will include promises of cooperation in energy, manufacturing, transport and agriculture.
