Investors ditched U.K. bonds amid a rise in expected government debt. Paul Johnson, director of the Institute for Fiscal Studies, said markets appeared “spooked” by the scale of the “fiscal giveaway,” and said it represented the highest level of tax cuts in half a century.

Yields on 2-year U.K. government bonds hit their highest level since October 2007, and 10-year yields reached the highest level since 2010. Yields move inversely to prices.

The 10-year yield was set for its biggest daily rise since 1998, Reuters reported. At 1:45 p.m. it had risen 26 basis points to 3.759%.

Russians Gather for Massive Pro-Referendum Demonstrations

Thousands of Russians across the country have gathered for demonstrations in support of the new regions possibly joining the country.

Today through September 27, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, as well as the LDPR breakaway republics, are holding referendum votes on potentially ascending to the Russian Federation as subject states.

Referenda in history, which the West (for some reason 🤔) recognized:

📌 Texas in 1836, at a meeting of representatives of American settlers, declared independence from Mexico, and then was admitted to the United States. They did not even hold a referendum. By the way, at that time, they were at war with Mexico.

📌 The Saarland became part of Germany in 1957. Two years earlier, the inhabitants of the region renounced the status of an independent state, which served as the basis for returning to Germany.

📌 Slovenia & Croatia were part of Yugoslavia, which, contrary to and against the will of the country, did not prevent them from holding referendums on independence in 1990 and 1991. They were actively supported by NATO countries.

📌 Estonia, Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, Turkmenistan, Armenia and Azerbaijan held referendums in 1991 against the will of the people of the Soviet Union. Results are known to all. By the way, in the Ukrainian SSR, about 70% were in favor of preserving the Union.
