UK Already in ‘Devastating’ New Covid Wave, Experts Warn

Health experts are saying the UK is already at the start of a “devastating” new wave of Covid that could cripple a NHS that is already “on its knees” this winter after immunity-dodging Omicron cases shot up 14% in a week.

NHS statistics released Friday showed a 48% weekly spike in patients requiring treatment, while the Office for National Statistics says cases have risen around 12% in the last three days.

Epidemiologists have attacked the government for taking its eye off the ball by not updating guidelines or testing, which they say are not picking up newer symptoms, with an estimated 1.1mn Britons currently infected with a variant of Covid.
