🇷🇺🇧🇾Belarus drills
Russia and Belarus will begin joint air force drills today, raising fresh concerns over the possibility of launching a new ground offensive in Ukraine — something that Kyiv has been increasingly discussing with its Western allies.

Minsk claimed the drills are defensive. The situation on Belarus's southern border — the border with Ukraine — was "not very calm," and Ukraine has been "provoking" Belarus, said Pavel Muraveyko, first deputy state secretary of Belarusian Security Council, according to a post on the Belarusian defence ministry's Telegram app on Sunday.

🕯Dnipro tragedy
Kyiv renewed its calls for more advanced Western air defense systems after at least 25 people died and 73 people were injured in the apartment building collapse due to a rocket impact (which Ukraine claims to be a deliberate attack and Russia calls “a result of air defense system’s response” placing the blame on Kyiv cynically).

🏭End of ‘Made in Europe’
Politico writes about deepening crisis affecting Europe’s centuries-old manufacturing base, caused by rising cost of energy (which the publication related to Ukraine war and Russia’s “shut-off of vital gas pipelines”).

This has become too much for many manufacturing firms to remain competitive if they stay in Europe, the publication holds. “At the same time, a vast package of American subsidies for green industry has shocked and angered EU officials, who see the U.S. — a supposed ally — tempting businesses to relocate across the Atlantic”. 

🔵LNG time
Meanwhile, Kommersant reports that supplies of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia to Europe have increased significantly by the end of 2022. NOVATEK increased LNG supplies to Europe from the Yamal LNG plant by about 13.5%, while insignificant volumes from Gazprom's Port LNG plant also contributed to the total volume of supplies.

The reduction in the supply of Russian pipeline gas to the EU has led to the fact that the share of LNG in Russian gas exports, previously insignificant, according to analysts, has increased to 25%.

🇷🇺🇮🇷Russian-Iranian token
The central bank of Iran is considering the possibility of developing a token jointly with Russia, Alexander Brazhnikov, executive director of the Russian Association of the Crypto Industry and Blockchain told Vedomosti.

The token will be a stablecoing allegedly backed by gold.
It can be used as a means of payment in foreign trade settlements instead of the dollar, ruble and Iranian rial.

Anton Tkachev, a member of the Duma committee on information policy, information Technologies and Communications, confirmed the fact of the negotiations, but clarified that this issue will be actively discussed at the state level only after cryptocurrencies are fully regulated in Russia.

What you won’t see in the news: people in NYC took the streets to speak out for PEACE in Ukraine and against NATO’ s imperialist war machine

Russia Wire’s subscriber based in New York city has sent this video from a peaceful protest that took place in NYC on January 14.

The event was announced back in December and was aimed at drawing attention to the need of Peace in Ukraine as against pumping in more and more weapons.

“It is crucial that opponents of the U.S. war machine stand up for peace as the Biden administration and Congress deepen their proxy battle in Ukraine. In the federal budget that was just passed and signed into law, the U.S. government has committed an additional $45 billion to this effort. In another provocative escalation, the Biden administration announced that it was sending the advanced Patriot missile system to Ukraine -- bringing a catastrophic direct conflict with Russia ever closer”, the event release said.
