Vladimir Putin held a meeting with representatives of Russia’s religious associations to address issues of interethnic and interfaith relations in the country and discuss the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Highlights from the President’s remarks:

🔹Harmony between different ethnic and religious groups is the pillar of Russian statehood. For all of us, such harmony and unity in our society is an essential value.

🔹Vladimir Putin expressed heartfelt condolences to Israeli families and citizens of other countries whose loved ones were killed or injured in the October 7 attack.

🔹It is clear that innocent people should not be held accountable for crimes committed by others. The fight against terrorism cannot be conducted on the notorious principle of collective responsibility.

🔹Russia's position on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is well known and has been explicitly stated on multiple occasions. It is founded on the UN Security Council resolutions which envisage the creation of two independent sovereign states, Israel and Palestine. This is the key to a lasting and fundamental settlement and peace in the Middle East.

🔹The primary goal is to stop bloodshed and violence. Further escalation of the crisis poses the risk of severe and highly dangerous and destructive consequences not just for the Middle Eastern region. It can spill far beyond the borders of the Middle East.

🔹We see the attempts of certain forces to incite further escalation by dragging as many other countries and nations as possible into the conflict and using them in their own selfish interests. To this end, they are trying to exploit the ethnic and religious sentiments of millions of people, which has been their policy for a long time.

🔹The West can see that the emergence of a multipolar world order is gaining speed, and it is deploying all the same means, such as Islamophobia, anti-Semitism and Russophobia, to hinder the progress of independent sovereign countries and divide the global majority.

Russia and China have vetoed a US draft resolution at the UN Security Council that did not call for a ceasefire in the besieged Gaza Strip.

“The US draft resolution was not balanced and does not reflect the required call for a ceasefire, and therefore it cannot be allowed to pass because it will completely make the Council lose its credibility,” Russia Today website quoted Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, as saying during a Security Council session.

In turn, the Chinese Representative to the Security Council stressed that the US draft resolution equates the victim with the executioner, and does not reflect the required call for a ceasefire.

The Chinese diplomat called for opening humanitarian corridors, delivering aid to the Gaza Strip, and preventing the forced displacement of its people.

Representatives of the Palestinian movement Hamas are visiting Moscow . Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova announced this on October 26.

“I can say and confirm that representatives of the relevant Palestinian movement are visiting Moscow. As for contacts, we will inform you additionally,” she said at the briefing.

Earlier that day , a RIA Novosti source said that Hamas Politburo member Abu Marzouk had arrived in Moscow.

Zakharova also reported that a meeting was held in Moscow between Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Galuzin and his Iranian counterpart Ali Bagheri Kani.
