Main points:

→ The bot allows confirming that the user is 18 years old to access adult content;

→ Works like a mini-app — verification is done through the device's camera without the need for Face ID, recognizing the face.

→ Verification is done once through the settings menu, after which access to 18+ content is granted. Without verification, such content will be hidden or restricted.

→ At this stage, the feature is only available in the UK due to local law but may expand to other regions.

The price of an insight… or maybe a missed opportunity?

The story begins in 2015, when Telegram introduced the ability to create channels.
A user named @ramcode, who was an old and savvy Telegram user, registered several single-word and attractive usernames:

@money, @auction, @travels, @lenta, @kasta

But not everything lasts forever…

🔹 @auction was reclaimed by Telegram itself due to inactivity.
🔹 @travels was sold for only $5, but later traded for an astonishing 170,000 TON.
🔹 @kasta was sold for 1,500 rubles (a few dollars), and later sold for 1,880 TON.
🔹 But his most profitable sale was the username @lenta, which he sold for 9,368 TON.

🎯 But the real star of our story is @money

On February 8, 2021, when the platform Fragment.com did not yet exist (it launched on October 26, 2022),
@ramcode sold the username @money in a private deal to a user named @character for only $2,500.

⌛ About 2 years later, on September 23, 2023, the same username was sold on Fragment.com for an extraordinary price of 92,400 TON.

The buyer? A famous Chinese whale ( 8886 ) who immediately put it on his crypto channel.

📈 Today, that channel has over 5 million followers — thanks to the username: @money

In one of his personal channel posts, @ramcode said he kept all that $2,500 in Bitcoin — a decision that probably seemed reasonable at the time.
But?
If he had kept the username, he could have sold it for about $660,000 (USDT).

Many have probably seen the news that Pavel Durov phone number starts with +999.

Well, that number is actually a test number. It used to be available to anyone on Telegram’s test servers, and on production it was reserved for Telegram devs only.
It’s not some big secret — there’s plenty of info about +999 online.

Right now, test numbers like that are disabled even on test servers, and only Telegram developers can use them. So no, you can’t sign up for Telegram using one.

This isn’t some new batch of “anonymous” phone numbers (like the +888 ones). Why Pavel chose a test number isn’t clear — maybe he just liked it 🙃
