ELM CREEK, Nebraska
A train is stopped on the tracks near Elm Creek, where fire crews were fighting flames coming from a locomotive Thursday. It happened on Highway 30 and Arrow Road, just west of town.
The fire was first reported before 5 a.m. and the flames appeared to be extinguished shortly after 6 a.m. Fire departments from Elm Creek, Overton and Kearney were on scene.

SOMERVILLE, Massachusetts
A manhole explosion in Somerville, Massachusetts, early Thursday shattered the windows of a nearby home.
Firefighters were called at 4:30 a.m. to Cross Street and McGrath Highway. When crews arrived, smoke was coming out of 3 other manholes.
Official said a house just feet away had its windows blown out while a family was inside. The door of the home was also damaged. No injuries were reported. Eversource is at the scene surveying the damage.
