Rock cutting industries, especially underground hard rock excavation, are moving to employ cyclic loading at cutter heads because it produces excessive fractures and crush hard rock with a low amount of energy.
It could be simply compared by investigating the effect of static and cyclic loading for the same specimen; (a) static failure and (b) cyclic failure for Brisbane's CLEM7 Tuffs.

Dear Presidents of the ISRM National Groups,

This is a call for nominations to the 9th ISRM Müller Award.

According to the ISRM By-law No.8 on the Müller Award, the deadline for the National Groups to present nominations is 16 April 2022.

Nominations are to be addressed to the ISRM Secretary General and shall include the name and address of the nominee and of the nominating National Group; a summary of up to 1000 words describing the nominee's achievements and contributions; and a list of the nominee's publications. The ISRM By-law No. 8 is attached to this email.

The award is made once every four years in recognition of distinguished contributions to the profession of rock mechanics and rock engineering and consists of a special Müller Lecture to be delivered at the ISRM International Congresses, a work of art typical of the culture of the country hosting the Congress and a silver medallion with a portrait of Leopold Müller.

The nominations will be voted by secret ballot at the next Council meeting to be held in Asuncion, Paraguay, on 16 October 2022, and the winner will receive the award and deliver the Müller Lecture during the 15th ISRM International Congress, in 2023, in Salzburg, Austria.

The John Hudson Rock Engineering Award is conferred on individuals or companies in recognition of outstanding achievements in engineering practice. A complete denoscription of the nature and objectives of this new Award, as well as of the nomination procedure, can be found in the “Guideline for the John Hudson Rock Engineering Award”, attached to this email.

Nominations for the award shall be by the chairs of the ISRM National Groups, who are kindly asked to spread this announcement through their members and to coordinate the nomination procedure. The deadline for submission of nominations for the John Hudson Rock Engineering Award 2020 is 16 April 2022.
