most chromatic aberration shaders you see use 3 samples (for R, G, B) with two of the samples being offset slightly to create the dispersion effect.
but if you use large offsets you'll get a color banding effect, where the RGB channel's are clearly separated.

to get a more realistic chromatic aberration you can do more samples and sum them up while applying a weight to the different color channels to create a rainbow like dispersion.
