Yesterday Mishaal Rahman shared about the the WarpShare app to transfer files from Android to Mac. You do not have to install anything on Mac to transfer files.

The source code of WarpShare is public so anyone can build the app. I built the WarpShare from its source code and I am sharing the APK file here because I couldn't find any APK of it on the internet.

I haven't tested it myself because I do not have a Mac. So try it out and let me know. You can find a video of how it works and details about it on Mishaal's Channel before you try the APK.

This is a debug build, that's why it's so large in size. Play Protect will warn you when installing because of debug build. So click on "Install Anyway" or disable Play Protect first.

Google is working on "Link your device" feature which was first spotted by nail (Google News channel), and later I shared about it getting device group feature which lets you create a hub of your devices such as phones , tablets and chromebooks connected together and allow internet sharing and call streaming.

Here are some new updates

Link Your Device - Device Group Changes

1. Instant hotspot - Your devices can turn on this hotspot and connect whenever they need internet

2. Automatically share Wi-Fi - Your nearby devices can connect to Wi-Fi without entering the password again.

3. Randomize name & password - Prevents other devices from discovering your instant hotspot.

4. Use internet sharing - Internet sharing works with Chromebooks and Android devices signed in to your Google Account. Bluetooth needs to be on to share internet. (This was already known)

While this is not something big and should have been available long ago, the files shared through nearby share usually goes to "Download" folder on your phone and may clutter the directory when receiving many files. With the latest GMS beta update, the files will be stored in the "Nearby Share" directory in the same "Download" folder. Makes sense because I sometimes forget where to look for the recieved files. 🤷‍♂️

Changes and upcoming new things

1. Some new features details in "Link Your Devices".

2. Files received through nearby share will be saved in "Nearby Share" folder in Download directory.

3. Google Wallet - Choose if you'll need to verify it's you when using your items stored in Wallet. You'll verify using your device lock setting, like fingerprint or PIN. (We don't have Google wallet in India, so I don't know if such a feature already exists)

4. Ability to copy your notes saved in your Google Password Manager.

5. Preparation for Google Badge (Announced by Google already) - When you use a corporate badge in Google Wallet, Google will share device and account info with Google's Global Security & Resilience Services (GSRS) and physical security teams to provide the service and associated support in accordance with our physical security data policy.

4. Google is also rolling out redesigned Google page in settings.

The latest GMS beta (22.33.14) also added icons for Earthquake, Tracker alerts & Silence notifications while driving. It looks better than before. Wireless Emergency Alerts is not a part of GMS, it's an Apex module and needs to be updated separately.

An exclusive look at the "Backup Locked Folder" feature in action. Your photos will be backed up to the cloud when you add them in the Locked Folder and can access them even after you uninstall or clear data of the app.

You will see an uploading icon on the photo when it's uploading to the cloud. This feature was initially spotted by Nail back in February and hasn't been rolled out publicly yet. I managed to enable it :)

It got enabled after messing up with some shared preference (root needed) files of Google Photos. Since Flags are encrypted in GPhotos, I don't know the exact one which is responsible for it.

Google is doing some changes in Voicemail Greeting feature in Google Phone V113 beta. Idk if this already exists. Custom greetings/voice signature.

In India, we don't have voicemail thing so can't really test or check about this.

If someone have voicemail feature, please send a screenshot of the "Custom Greetings" settings from the Google Phone app in comments if you have that option. I couldn't find anything on internet about it except that the Google Voice app allows adding custom greetings.

[ROOT] Enable Locked Folder Backup in Google Photos

Issue : Photo editing may or may not work after following this method.

Instructions -
1. Download the flag file from here.
2. Using your favourite root file explorer, copy it to /data/data/com.google.android.apps.photos/shared_prefs/ and replace with the existing file with the same name.
3. Force stop Google Photos once and open it.
4. Go to the locked folder and you will see the opt in dialogue.

If you want to revert to original, maybe just make a backup of existing flag file before copying or just clear data of Google Photos app.
