As anyone would have expected, Bard in Google Messages is also being rebranded to Gemini. The onboarding popup is also tweaked. Like the web version and Google app, you can attach only one pic in the conversation.

It's still work in progress, so sending messages doesn't work yet.

Google Photos to allow changing categories of images in Document section

It's been a while since Google rolled out this updated document section which automatically categorises pictures. Since this is all done by AI/ML, it may not be 100% correct while categorising images. So Google will allow you to change categories.

You will be able to change categories by selecting a single or multiple images which are already inside a category and then selecting "Change Categories" from the 3 dot menu on the top right. Here are some strings from the Google Photos app -

Play Store seems roll out government badges for eligible apps

In a Google Play System Update change log (Jan 2024), Google mentioned that it will be available in 12 countries initially with more to come (they didn't name the countries).

Appeared for me in version - 39.7.34

Google Play Store testing AI based App Highlights features

This new addition - App Highlights using AI provides users the highlights of the app on the details page. This is similar to the AI based FAQ's feature which I shared about back in January.

I was aware of this feature and flags but it never worked for me by turning on flags. This is a very limited server side testing.

Gamehub - Play Store can show your game playtime

If you have any games installed, Google Play Store can show you how long you have played the particular game. The play time is shown besides the game icon.

There are a few more flags which hint at more features related to gamehub. I am not sure if anyone else got it, but I enabled it with a flag (root required) -

Gboard's proofreading mode now works with the selected text

In the new version 13.9 beta, a flag - writing_helper_on_selected_text is added which makes the proofreading mode work on the selected text instead of the whole message.

This will be helpful with very long texts, because proofreading mode may not work with very long texts.

A long press also opens the reaction bar as usual. You don't have to do that anymore for just liking messages now.
