Despite his condition, he graduated from high school, obtained a law degree, and practiced law in Texas for decades. He became an advocate for polio awareness, wrote a memoir, and was recognized by Guinness World Records for the longest time spent living in an iron lung before passing away in March 2024 at age 78.
