Among the crowd in Novo Mesto, right-wing extremists waving a banner (PHOTO)

During yesterday's demonstration in Novo Mesto, a group of extremists displayed a "Defend Slovenia" banner before quickly removing/hiding it.
It appears that members of the far-right Identitarian movement, which under the pretext of defending traditional European values spreads hatred towards migrants, Islam, and anything non-European, also came to Novo Mesto.
European MP Branko Grims accompanied them, which is not surprising, as he is the one who most openly promotes the ideas of the Identitarian movement among Slovenian politicians. He is also professionally connected to them, as his assistant in the European Parliament is Žan Žalec, the leading figure of the Slovenian Identitarians.
The Identitarians also wanted to contribute to the demonstration organized by a crowd outraged by the death of Aleš Šutar, who died on Saturday after being beaten by Sabrijan Jurkovič, a member of the Roma community.
At one point, they even waved a "Defend Slovenia" banner, inspired by the Identitarian slogan "Defend Europe." It remained visible just long enough for our photographer to capture it before being quickly concealed.
The pan-European Identitarian movement is known for its extremist actions and persecution of migrants. It was banned in France after chasing migrants in the Alps as part of the Defend Europe operation. In Austria, the Identitarians were labeled a criminal association spreading hate speech and faced criminal prosecution.
