there is a wide spread idea that HAMAS are an islamic extremist group that has been spread through propaganda to push the narrative that equalises HAMAS to IS.

While HAMAS is definitely an 'extremist' group, their extremism does not come from an islamic standpoint, in terms of their islamic believes they are moderate muslims but their extremism can not be linked to islamic text or islamic goals rather it's linked to colonialism/occupation resistance where a non extremist resister would attack military targets and abide to international law but an extremist resister would also kill the colonial civilians/settlers.

We can see that progressive moderate islamic view of HAMAS rejected by multiple islamic countries such as Saudi Arabia or the UAE that fall under islamic rule but don't like the islamic rule that HAMAS provides which is basically a brief modification of the British mandate laws such as labelling male gay relations a crime yet female gay relations as accepted by law.
