Eyes wide shut - an honest review:
I've waited years to watch this movie because i thought it required background knowledge and guts. However when i watched this movie i was rather disappointed. I expected more gore and creepiness it did not fulfill me in that aspect. I think the iconic "ritual" scene deserved more screen time or maybe another weird string could have been attached. Perhaps a cannibalism reference, an antichrist symbol or a distributing dungeon.
The screenplay abd casting was done well, i entirely believe no one can play Alice like Nicole kidman. The chemistry between them and the fighting and cheating all seemed very real and believeable. Both leads did a great job from Nicole kidmans drunk stuttering to Tom cruises constant "im a doctor" scenes.
And finally my favorite part was the making of the movie, 400 days of production! What a phenomenon not to mention all the details that were involved in the background including the backward signs of the shops, using green screens instead of actual locations because the lack of length of the streets in New york and of course all the costumes, decorated rooms and glamours chandeliers.
What i can tell you about Kubricks modern work is that it is always shifting especially with Eyes wide shut, this movie is like a mirage, the colours are always changing and there are so many surprises.
